This paper presents the MESSAGE/UML agent oriented software engineering methodology and illustrates it on an analysis case study. The methodology covers MAS analysis and design and is intended for use in mainstream software engineering departments. MESSAGE integrates into a coherent AOSE methodology some basic agent related concepts such as Organization, role, goal and task, that have so far been studied in isolation. The MESSAGE notation extends the UML with agent knowledge level concepts, and ...

The disposable bronchoscope is an excellent alternative to face the problem of SARS-CoV-2 and other cross infections, but the bronchoscopist's perception of its quality has not been evaluated. To evaluate the quality of the Ambu-aScope4 disposable bronchoscope, we carried out a cross-sectional study in 21 Spanish pulmonology services. We use a standardized questionnaire completed by the bronchoscopists at the end of each bronchoscopy. The variables were described with absolute and relative frequencies, ...

We aimed to examine (a) the construct validity and reliability of the I nternational F itness S cale ( IFIS ) in children; and (b) the association of both self‐reported and measured fitness with cardiometabolic risk. Cross‐sectional study in 1145 S panish children (9–12 years). We measured body fat, waist circumference, blood pressure, lipids, insulin, and fitness level (reported and measured). A validated cardiometabolic syndrome index was used. An age‐ and sex‐matched sample of 245 children originally ...

Software modernization is critical for organizations that need cost-effective solutions to deal with the rapid obsolescence of software and the increasing demand for new functionality. This paper presents the XIRUP modernization methodology, which proposes a highly iterative process, structured into four phases: preliminary evaluation, understanding, building and migration. This modernization process is feature-driven, component-based, focused on the early elicitation of key information, and relies ...

This study was to examine the influence of socioeconomic status on fitness and fatness in Spanish adolescents.A total of 1 795 adolescents (833 boys) aged 12.5-18.5 years from the AVENA study participated in this study. The following physical fitness components were assessed: muscular strength (standing long jump), speed-agility (4 × 10 m shuttle run) and cardiorespiratory fitness (20 m shuttle run). Total and central body fat was assessed using skinfold thickness and waist circumference, respectively. ...

In this work we examined the effect of low concentrations of Cu(2+) on the opening of the mitochondrial non-specific pore. The purpose was addressed to further contribute to the knowledge of the mechanisms that regulate the open/closed cycles of the permeability transition pore. Membrane leakage was established by measuring matrix Ca(2+) efflux and mitochondrial swelling. The experimental results indicate that Cu(2+) at very low concentrations promoted the release of accumulated Ca(2+), as well ...

The analytical properties of picolinaldehyde thiosemicarbazone and selenosemicarbazone have been studied, in order to investigate the changes produced when the Se atom is substituted for the S atom. The ionization constants of both substances are very similar. The complexes of picolinaldehyde selenosemicarbazone with cations in aqueous solution are less stable, and the absorption spectra show bathochromic and hypochromic shifts. The introduction of the Se atom offers no advantages in the analytical ...

Haematological variables in patients with eosinophilia and in healthy control subjects were studied in order to determine whether there were abnormalities in the coagulation system in patients. We found significantly elevated levels of fibrinogen, fibrin degradation products, platelet number and beta-thromboglobulin in patients. The abnormalities were not related to the causes of eosinophilia nor to its severity. This lack of correlation could be due to the heterogeneity of human peripheral blood ...

Optical metro networks evolution driven by 5G requirements face enormous challenges. Network functions virtualized in the data centers spread to the metro nodes, IP, and optical technologies must cooperate to meet the metro traffic aggregation role. Multiple technological options exist, and carriers confront the need to economically assess them, benchmarked in realistic deployments. This paper gives relevant insights to this aim. We first construct a set of metro network benchmarks. A strategic ...

Perinatal asphyxia (PA) is an obstetric complication that strongly affects the CNS. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a lipid transmitter system involved in several physiological processes including synaptic plasticity, neurogenesis, memory, and mood. Endocannabinoids, and other acylethanolamides (AEs) without endocannabinoid activity, have recently received growing attention due to their potential neuroprotective functions in neurological disorders, including cerebral ischemia. In the present study, ...

This study focuses on describing ozone patterns and estimating ozone concentrations in urban settings through the classification of an urban area into homogeneous typologies, according to hourly ozone concentrations, and the development of accurate estimation models for each typology. For these proposals, a hierarchical cluster analysis was conducted in order to define homogeneous subareas, and multiple linear regressions were subsequently applied with the aim of obtaining ozone predictions, employing ...

Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) is generally recognised as a fruitful example of bilingual education. However, success in CLIL may not be straightforward and may require the establishment of coordination between content and language teachers. The aim of this study is to investigate if content and language teachers are able to plan a number of different types of coordination at the curricular level: between the foreign language (FL) subject and the content subjects, between the language ...

Abstract Establishing a few community‐based plant clinics in Nicaragua led to a series of innovations in plant health service delivery. A grassroots experiment became a nationwide initiative involving local service providers, universities, research institutions and diagnostic laboratories. This led to the creation of a ‘National Plant Health System’ offering regular advice to farmers. The innovations were driven by a momentum for change, committed individuals, joint learning and flexibility in programme ...

The endogenous cannabinoid system plays an important modulatory role in feeding behaviour and metabolism, acting at both central and peripheral levels. Chronic administration of cannabinoid CB 1 receptor antagonists has been found to be effective in experimental obesity. However, clinically available cannabinoid receptor antagonists are inverse agonists that can target CB 1 receptors located in both central circuits regulating appetite and motivation and in peripheral organs regulating metabolism ...

Endocannabinoid signalling participates in the control of neurogenesis, especially after brain insults. Obesity may explain alterations in physiology affecting neurogenesis, although it is unclear whether cannabinoid signalling may modulate neural proliferation in obese animals. Here we analyse the impact of obesity by using two approaches, a high-fat diet (HFD, 60% fat) and a standard/low-fat diet (STD, 10% fat), and the response to a subchronic treatment with the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) ...

Abstract Diet‐induced obesity produces changes in endocannabinoid signaling ( ECS ), influencing the regulation of energy homeostasis. Recently, we demonstrated that, in high‐fat‐diet‐fed rats, blockade of CB 1 receptor by AM 251 not only reduced body weight but also increased adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus, suggesting an influence of diet on hippocampal cannabinoid function. To further explore the role of hippocampal ECS in high‐fat‐diet‐induced obesity, we investigated whether the immunohistochemical ...
