Efforts to improve primary care depression treatment have assessed strategies across heterogeneous groups of patients, but few have examined clinician-level influences on depression treatment. To examine clinician characteristics that affect depression treatment in primary care settings, using multilevel ordinal regression modeling to disentangle patient- from clinician-level effects. Secondary analysis from the Quality Improvement in Depression Study dataset. The participants were 1,023 primary ...

C. Harabati, Jan M. Rost, Frank Großmann,

We numerically compare the semiclassical "frozen Gaussian" Herman-Kluk propagator [Chem. Phys. 91, 27 (1984)] and the "thawed Gaussian" propagator put forward recently by Baranger et al. [J. Phys. A 34, 7227 (2001)] by studying the quantum dynamics in some nonlinear one-dimensional potentials. The reasons for the lack of long-time accuracy and norm conservation in the latter method are uncovered. We amend the thawed Gaussian propagator with a global harmonic approximation for the stability of the trajectories ...

Hansruedi Glatt, Katharina Rost, Heinz Frank, Albrecht Seidel, Ronny Kollock,

Methylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can be metabolically activated via benzylic hydroxylation and sulpho conjugation to reactive esters, which can induce mutations and tumours. Yet, further oxidation of the alcohol may compete with this toxification. We previously demonstrated that several human alcohol dehydrogenases (ADH1C, 2, 3 and 4) oxidise various benzylic alcohols (derived from alkylated pyrenes) to their aldehydes with high catalytic efficiency. However, all these ADHs also catalysed ...

M. Fischer, J. Handt, Jan M. Rost, Frank Großmann, R. Schmidt,

A detailed vibrationally and rotationally resolved study for the fragmentation dynamics of the hydrogen molecular ion (${{\text{H}}_{2}}^{+}$) under intense short laser pulses is presented. Our theoretical nonadiabatic quantum molecular dynamics approach allows us to dynamically include all degrees of freedom for ionization also. We find that in general rotation enhances ionization compared to that in rotationally frozen molecules, with a weaker effect on highly vibrationally excited states. We identify ...

The marine diazotrophic cyanobacterium Trichodesmium responds to elevated atmospheric CO2 partial pressure (pCO2) with higher N2 fixation and growth rates. To unveil the underlying mechanisms, we examined the combined influence of pCO2 (150 and 900 μatm) and light (50 and 200 μmol photons m−2 s−1) on Trichodesmium IMS101. We expand on a complementary study that demonstrated that while elevated pCO2 enhanced N2 fixation and growth, oxygen evolution and carbon fixation increased mainly as a response ...

Evaluating the measurement uncertainty for gears with analytical or experimental methods is usually very time- and cost-consuming. In this paper we therefore present a Monte Carlo based method for evaluating the measurement uncertainty of gear measurements on gear measuring instruments, the VCMM-Gear, which is based on the method of the VCMM for coordinate measuring machines. Necessary extensions of the mathematical model of the measurement process in order to consider the significant uncertainty ...

Biallelic mutations in MCPH1 cause primary microcephaly (MCPH) with the cellular phenotype of defective chromosome condensation. MCPH1 encodes a multifunctional protein that notably is involved in brain development, regulation of chromosome condensation, and DNA damage response. In the present studies, we detected that MCPH1 encodes several distinct transcripts, including two major forms: full-length MCPH1 (MCPH1-FL) and a second transcript lacking the six 3′ exons (MCPH1Δe9–14). Both variants show ...

In order to understand psychiatric factors that complicate the medical management of somatizing patients, 94 subjects with known somatization disorder (SD) were evaluated for 13 personality disorders with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R Personality Disorders. Referred from multiple primary care settings, the patient sample was predominantly female (85%), married (67%), high school graduates (64%), and had a mean age of 43. Structured interviews documented that 23.4% of SD patients had ...

Abstract A 20‐inch, largest OLED display in the world is demonstrated which is driven by “Super Amorphous Silicon” technology. It has been widely believed that the characteristics of amorphous silicon TFT is not sufficient to drive OLED display. This paper turns over the hypothesis to prove that amorphous silicon can be applied to the large active‐matrix driven displays. Novel approaches to enable amorphous silicon to drive bright and long life OLED display are shown to open a bright future to realize ...

We show that ionization and dissociation can be influenced separately in a molecule with appropriate external noise. Specifically, we investigate the hydrogen molecular ion under a stochastic force quantum mechanically beyond the Born–Oppenheimer approximation. We find that up to 30% of dissociation without ionization can be achieved by suitably tuning the forcing parameters.

The oxidation of fatty acids by rabbit reticulocytes and their isolated mitochondria has been studied with [1‐ 14 C]octanoate, [U‐ 14 C]palmitate and [U‐ 14 C]oleate. The fatty acids, particularly octanoate, represent good respiratory substrates. They are activated both by carnitine‐dependent and carnitine‐independent systems, the former predominating for palmitate, the latter for octanoate. The oxidation of palmitate presents a nearly hyperbolic substrate‐saturation curve. The limitation lies presumably ...

Recent studies on the diazotrophic cyanobacterium Trichodesmium erythraeum (IMS101) showed that increasing CO2 partial pressure (pCO2) enhances N2 fixation and growth. Significant uncertainties remain as to the degree of the sensitivity to pCO2, its modification by other environmental factors, and underlying processes causing these responses. To address these questions, we examined the responses of Trichodesmium IMS101 grown under a matrix of low and high levels of pCO2 (150 and 900 μatm) and irradiance ( ...

AbstractAlthough psychiatric comorbidity and alcoholism severity are risk factors for poor outcomes in treating alcoholism, little is known about whether clinicians assess these conditions accurately. In this study we evaluated four clinicians' assessments of two indicators of alcoholism severity and three psychiatric comorbidities in 78 inpatients in their third to seventh day of hospitalization in alcohol treatment programs. Clinicians overestimated the number of days drinking in 28% of subjects, ...
