Caesalpinia ferrea Mart. belongs to the family Fabaceae. Known as pau-ferro and jucá, it is used in folk medicine to treat diabetes, as antipyretic and antirheumatic. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities of the ethanol extract of the fruits of C. ferrea (EECf). In the evaluation of anti-inflammatory activity, EECf (50 mg/kg) produced significantly inhibition of ear edema by 66.6% compared to control. Indomethacin (10 mg/kg) showed inhibition of 83.9% compared ...

Libidibia ferrea has been used in folk medicine throughout Brazil, and this study evaluated the biological activities of crude extract (CE) as well as a partially purified fraction (F80) obtained from its pods. Results from the MTT assay revealed that only F80 inhibited NCI-H292 cell growth; however, neither CE nor F80 reduced HEp-2 cell growth or sarcoma 180 tumor weight with the in vivo assay. Acute oral toxicity of the extract and fraction was evaluated following the steps of Guideline 423, using ...

Circus is a combination of Z, CSP, and the refinement calculus, and is based on Hoare & He’s Unifying Theories of Programming. A model checker is being constructed for the language to conduct refinement checking in the style of FDR, but supported by theorem proving for reasoning about the complex states and data types that arise from the use of Z. FDR deals with bounded labelled transition systems (LTSs), but the Circus model checker manipulates LTSs with possibly infinite inscriptions on arcs and ...

Paraphrase identification consists in the process of verifying if two sentences are semantically equivalent or not. It is applied in many natural language tasks, such as text summarization, information retrieval, text categorization, and machine translation. In general, methods for assessing paraphrase identification perform three steps. First, they represent sentences as vectors using bag of words or syntactic information of the words present the sentence. Next, this representation is used to measure ...

Paracetamol is a widely used medication during gestation and lactation periods for the treatment of pain and fever. Several studies have shown that exposure to paracetamol can increase the incidence of cryptorchidism and decrease testosterone production. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate if maternal treatment with paracetamol during gestation and gestation/lactation periods can alter reproductive and behavioral parameters in male offspring. Female Wistar rats were treated daily by gavage ...

Abstract Triclocarban (TCC) is an antimicrobial compound widely used in personal care products such as soaps, toothpaste, and shampoo. This agent is incompletely removed by wastewater treatment and represents an environmental contaminant. Recent studies have shown that TCC is associated with some endocrine disruptions. The aim of the present study was to evaluate if TCC exposure during critical periods of development (gestation and lactation) could lead to adverse effects on reproductive and behavior ...

We study the impact of scheduling algorithms on the provision of multiple services in the long term evolution (LTE) system. In order to measure how well the services are provided by the system, we use the definition of joint system capacity. In this context, we claim that scheduling strategies should consider the current satisfaction level of each service and the offered load to the system by each service. We propose a downlink‐scheduling strategy according to these ideas named capacity‐driven resource ...

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while ...
