A novel approach for chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) separation by immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC) based on the differences in the interactions of chelated copper (II) ions with various COS (dimers, trimers, tetramers) is described. Polyhydroxylic chromatographic supports (agarose CL-6B and silica) were functionalized with various chelating functions such as iminodiacetate (IDA), carboxymethyl-aspartate (CM-Asp) and tris(carboxymethyl)ethylenediamine (TED). The COS retention capacities of ...

γ-Glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) is a heterodimeric enzyme important for glutathione homeostasis control. It has also been implicated in many physiological disorders, including Parkinson's disease, apoptosis inhibition, and diabetes. In the first step of its ping-pong mechanism it binds glutathione, its in vivo substrate, and releases cysteinylglycine upon formation of an acyl-enzyme intermediate. This intermediate can then react with water to release glutamate as a hydrolysis product or with an amino ...

Pd(II)-directed self-assembly of a 3-pyridyl grafted Lindqvist hexavanadate led to the formation of a unique trimeric species, as confirmed by a variety of techniques, including pulsed-field gradient NMR spectroscopy and high-resolution ESI mass spectrometry.

Present worldwide difficulties in healthcare and the environment have motivated the investigation and research of novel materials in an effort to find novel techniques to address the current challenges and requirements. In particular, the use of nanomaterials has demonstrated a significant promise in the fight against bacterial infections and the problem of antibiotic resistance. Metal nanoparticles and carbon-based nanomaterials in particular have been highlighted for their exceptional abilities ...
