The Neogene Beypazari basin is one of the important coal districts of Central Anatolia with approximately 600 million short tons lignite reserves. The coal-bearing Neogene sediments occurring in the Beypazari basin are divided into seven formations, in ascending order; Çoraklar, Hirka, Akpinar, Çayirhan, Bozbelen and Kirmir Formations with Sariyar Limestone and Teke volcanics. The Çoraklar Formation consists of cross-bedded sandstones, channel-fill conglomerates, mudstones, carbonaceous shales and ...

Abstract Recently acquired data lead to a revision of the structure around the apex of the Isparta Angle (area around Isparta). In the autochthonous/parautochthonous carbonate platform several blocks are identified as having followed distinctive palaeogeographical evolutions during Mesozoic times. These blocks are: the Kır Dağları, the Barla Dağ, the Söbü Dağ and the Bey Dağları. However, the latter two blocks cannot be considered as identical as previously believed. A major thrust fault may separate ...

ABSTRACT A thick sedimentary sequence comprising fluvial, lacustrine and volcano‐sedimentary rocks is present in the Neogene Beypazari Basin, central Anatolia. These units display considerable lateral facies variation and interfinger with alkaline volcanic rocks along the north‐eastern margin of the basin. The uppermost Miocene Kirmir Formation contains numerous evaporite horizons. The evaporite sequence is up to 250 m thick and may be divided into four lithofacies. In ascending stratigraphical ...

In the Eastern Mediterranean region, the Isparta volcanic belongs to the post-collisional alkali-potassic to ultrapotassic magmatism active since the Miocene in this part of the Anatolian peninsula from Afyon to Isparta. In the so-called Isparta Angle (IA) the magmatism is contemporaneous with an extensional regime intiated during Late Miocene and active throughout the Pliocene and Quaternary. Previous K/Ar dating performed on lavas suggested that potassic-ultrapotassic magmatism occurred between ...

Important volcanic occurrences such as a sub-volcanic stock, caldera, volcano cones, circular, semicircular and elliptical morphologic structures have been identified in the Golcuk Crater Lake district and surrounding area, SW Turkey. Our satellite image analysis shows that the volcanic activity occurred during different volcanic phases. Maps of lineaments and geology of the region were prepared using colors, drainage patterns, textural features, vegetation cover and morphological forms as interpretation ...

The Quaternary volcanism of Isparta, south-western Anatolia, belongs to the post-collisional alkali-potassic to ultrapotassic magmatism, active since Miocene, from Afyon to Isparta. In the so-called Isparta Angle, the magmatism is contemporaneous with the Aegean extensional regime initiated during the Late Miocene and active throughout the Pliocene and Quaternary. The Gölcük volcano-forming stages consist of three main eruptive cycles: Cycle I comprising 200 m-thick pyroclastic flow deposits; Cycle ...

Many radioactive elements have existed when the Earth had appeared and the long living of them are still present. One of the most important of these radioactive elements is 40 K.It makes about 0.012% of total content of K, widely represented in many different rocks. In this study the distribution of the natural 40 K radioelement in the volcanics of the south part of Afyon was investigated.Gamma-ray spectrometer was used for in-situ measurements of this radioelement concentration.Studied area has covered ...

The Isparta Angle (IA) is formed along the boundary of the African and Eurasian plates by NE‐ and NW‐striking faults north of the Antalya Gulf in SW Turkey. The NE‐striking strike‐slip Burdur fault bounds the IA to the west and is probably the continuation of the Pliny system of the Hellenic arc; the NW‐striking Aksehir fault bounds it to the east. Platform‐type, parautochthonous Mesozoic carbonate sequences such as the Beydag and Anamas‐Akseki occur in the western and eastern parts of the IA, respectively, ...

Undoubtedly, oil prices play a crucial role in the macroeconomic performances of oil-exporting developing countries. In this regard, the exchange rate is one of the key macroeconomic indicators worthy of investigation. Existing literature shows that world oil prices play an important role in the appreciation of the exchange rates of oil-exporting developing countries. However, only a few studies have examined this issue by considering all three oil-exporting countries of the Commonwealth Independent ...

In this paper, a multi-stage stochastic optimization (MSO) method is proposed for determining the medium to long term power generation mix under uncertain energy demand, fuel prices (coal, natural gas and oil) and, capital cost of renewable energy technologies. The uncertainty of future demand and capital cost reduction is modelled by means of a scenario tree configuration, whereas the uncertainty of fuel prices is approached through Monte Carlo simulation. Global environmental concerns have rendered ...

Market efficiency has been analyzed through many studies using different linear methods. However, studies on financial econometrics reveal that financial time series exhibit nonlinear patterns because of various reasons. This paper examines market efficiency at Borsa Istanbul using a smooth transition autoregressive (STAR) type nonlinear model. I develop nonlinear ARCH and STAR models, a linear AR model and random walk model for 10 years’ weekly data and then out-of-sample forecast next 12 weeks’ ...

This paper models and estimates the volatility of nonfinancial, innovative and hi-tech focused stock index, the Nasdaq-100, using univariate asymmetric GARCH models. We employ EGARCH and GJR-GARCH using daily data over the period January 4, 2000 through March 19, 2019. We find that the volatility shocks on the index returns are quite persistent. Furthermore, our findings show that the index has leverage effect, and the impact of shocks is asymmetric, whereby the impacts of negative shocks on volatility ...

This article examines the influence of renewable energy consumption, real GDP per capita, exports and imports on consumption-based CO2 emissions in Azerbaijan from 1993 to 2019 by employing the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares Method (DOLS). The results reveal that renewable energy consumption has a negative impact on CO2 emissions, while real GDP per capita has a positive effect. According to the findings, a 1% increase in renewable energy consumption leads to a 0.26% decrease in consumption-based ...

The Miocene alluvial, fluvial and lacustrine deposits occurring to the east of Akhisar (West Turkey) contain an economically potential lignite layer. This Miocene sequence is divisible into five formations, of which the Yeniköy Formation contains an autochthonous lignite horizon in its uppermost part. The Yeniköy Formation consists of, in a broadly ascending order, cross-bedded sandstones, channel-fill conglomerates, algal limestones, mudstones and carbonaceous shales. The Küçükderment Formation, ...

4253 Background: Gastric cancer has a bad prognosis. Even for patients who have undergone potentially curative resection, the rate of locoregional and distant recurrance is very high. Thus improvement of the survival in this disease relies on the development of effective adjuvant treatments. The most commonly applied adjuvant treatments after surgery are chemotherapy, radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy which has gained popularity recently after INT-0116 study. Method: With an aim to determine which ...
