In December 2019, a new viral disease emerged and quickly spread all around the world. In March 2020, the COVID-19 outbreak was classified as a global pandemic and by June 2021, the number of infected people grew to over 170 million. Along with the patients' mild-to-severe respiratory symptoms, reports on probable central nervous system (CNS) effects appeared shortly, raising concerns about the possible long-term detrimental effects on human cognition. It remains unresolved whether the neurological ...

Following the observation that the activity of gonadotropin-releasing hormone III (GnRH-III) in the suppression of growth of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells surpasses that of GnRH and other analogs thereof, analogs of GnRH-III were synthesized to investigate the structural basis for the improved antitumor activity. Compounds synthesized include analogs with changes in the central sequence in which GnRH-III differs from GnRH and in the C- and N-terminal regions. The results indicate that ...

As part of ongoing work aimed at generating proteolytically stable, readily applicable, radiolabeled endomorphin-2 (EM-2) analogs for elucidation of the topological requirements of peptide binding to μ-opioid receptors, we report here on the synthesis, radiolabeling, binding kinetics and binding site distribution of an EM-2 analog in which Pro2 is replaced by 2-aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid, ACHC. [3H][(1S,2R)ACHC]2EM-2 (specific activity 63.49 Ci × mmol−1) bound specifically to its binding sites with ...

Slide-binding and autoradiographic studies were performed on cryostat sections from brains of adult Sprague-Dawley rats and BALB C mice to describe the binding characteristics of the tetrapeptide [3H]TIPP, an antagonist with high specificity and affinity for the delta opioid receptors. Steady-state binding of [3H]TIPP to cryostat sections of brain paste was reached in 120–180 min of incubation. Specific [3H]TIPP binding resulted in maximal numbers of binding sites (Bmax) of 15.59 and 23.91 fmolmg protein, ...

[(3)H]Tyr-Tic-(2S,3R)-beta-MePhe-Phe-OH (where Tic: 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid) with a specific radioactivity of 53.7 Ci/mmol was synthesized and characterized in receptor binding assays at 25 degrees C in rat brain membranes. The specific binding was saturable and displayed high affinity, with a K(D) of 0.16+/-0.005 nM and B(max) of 85.9+/-6.3 fmol/mg protein. NaCl increased its affinity by about 4-fold in membranes of rat brain and Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells stably transfected ...

Artificial intelligence is already an unavoidable player in our everyday lives and its role will, certainly, continue to grow in the future. The article, after a short theoretical explanation, examines the role that artificial intelligence can play in the development of different areas of field artillery (artillery target acquisition, fire control systems, weapons and ammunition). At the end of the study, the author draws attention to an area that is still quite undeveloped today, the ethical issues ...

Two fragments of β-amyloid(1–42) peptide, β-amyloid(31–35) and β-amyloid(25–35), were synthesized and labelled with tritium in the Leu34 residue. Precursor peptides containing ΔLeu34 were prepared by solid phase peptide synthesis using manual Fmoc strategy. Tritium labelling was carried out by catalytic saturation, yielding [3H-Leu34]β-amyloid(31–35) and [3H-Leu34]β-amyloid(25–35) with very high specific activities of around TBq/mmol (120 Ci/mmol). The labelling peptides were investigated by RP-HPLC ...

Background Although post-TAVI PAR is commonly seen, its exact evaluation, grading and the true impact on patients' survival are still debated. This single center study aimed to evaluate the effect of post transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) paravalvular aortic regurgitation (PAR) on patients' survival. The outcome was evaluated by the three most commonly used techniques just after TAVI in the interventional arena. Methods 201 high risk patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis underwent ...
