The thermal decompositions of both non-activated and mechanically activated aluminum sulfates were studied by thermogravimetry (TG). The structural disorder, the specific surface area (SSA) and the morphology of mechanically activated aluminum sulfates were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), laser particle-size analyzer, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. Thermal analyses results indicated that the initial temperature of thermal decomposition (Ti) in TG curves for mechanically activated ...

Biosorption of lead(II) and cadmium(II) from aqueous solutions by protonated Sargassum glaucescens biomass was studied in a continuous packed bed column. The selective uptake of Pb2+ and Cd2+ was investigated in a binary system with initial concentration of 1 mM for each metal ion. The selective uptake capacities of Pb2+ and Cd2+ at complete exhaustion point were obtained 1.18 and 0.22 mmol/g, respectively; therefore, the biosorbent showed much higher relative affinity for Pb2+ than for Cd2+. The ...

During the last three decades, several laser systems, ancillary technologies, and treatment modalities have been developed for the treatment of port wine stains (PWSs). However, approximately half of the PWS patient population responds suboptimally to laser treatment. Consequently, novel treatment modalities and therapeutic techniques/strategies are required to improve PWS treatment efficacy. This overview therefore focuses on three distinct experimental approaches for the optimization of PWS laser ...

Cr (VI) adsorption characteristics of Ulmus leaves (UL) and their ash were examined as a function of contact time, initial pH, and initial metal ion concentration. Batch adsorption experiments were performed. The effects of Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Na + and K + on adsorption were studied. Maximum removal was achieved in the pH=7, contact time of 60 minutes and with initial Cr (VI) concentration of 2 mg/L. Because at pH ≥6.5 ,precipitation of chromium may take place, optimum pH was selected at 6. Maximum adsorption rate ...

Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a devastating genodermatosis characterized by generalized skin fragility, severe blistering, and wounding that heals with mutilating scarring. Patients are in constant need of effective wound therapies as they often succumb to aggressive metastatic squamous cell carcinomas or to sepsis that may develop from their chronic wounds. Herein, we demonstrate accelerated wound healing with use of a fractionated CO2 laser protocol in a 22-year-old man with ...

Patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) have incurable skin fragility, blistering, and skin wounds due to mutations in the gene that codes for type VII collagen (C7) that mediates dermal–epidermal adherence in human skin. In this study, we evaluated if topically applied human recombinant C7 (rC7) could restore C7 at the dermal–epidermal junction (DEJ) and enhance wound healing. We found that rC7 applied topically onto murine skin wounds stably incorporated into the newly formed ...

Duration of concrete pouring task is typically considered from the arrival time of the first Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) truck until the end of the pouring process of the last truck. In practice, the concrete pouring duration does not only depend on site features. In fact, the duration is also affected by other parameters such as supply process, location of the project and traffic conditions, particularly in cities with heavy traffic. This paper investigates impacts of supply chain parameters on predicting ...

The travel demand modelling has experienced a paradigm shift from aggregate to disaggregate models, leading to an increase in computational time and simulation cost. Meanwhile, transferability models have emerged to reduce the associated cost and computational burden, but haven't discounted the disaggregation level. This research proposes the proof of the concept of an innovative transferability modelling framework to estimate total number of trips and trip attributes in a tour of trips at a disaggregate ...

Residential relocation decision making is a complicated process, and modelling this complex course of actions requires careful scrutinisation of different aspects. The relocation decision comprises several different decisions, including the reason for the relocation, relocation timing, and attributes of the desired residence. Among these decisions needing to be taken, the reason for relocation and its timing are decided earlier than others. Depending on the variant reasons and motivations for relocating, ...
