Let k be a finite field. For a function field K over k and m > 3, it is proven that there are infinitely many non-isomorphic function fields L such that L/K is a separable extension of degree m and Aut£ L -{Id}.It is also shown that for a finite group G, there are infinitely many non-isomorphic function fields L/k such that Aut* L = G.Finally, given any finite nilpotent group G such that |G| > 1 and (|<7|, \k\ -1) = 1 and any function field K over k 9 there are infinitely many non-isomorphic function fields L over ...

ABSTRACT Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa L.) is an important forage crop in many countries with high biomass production and the third‐most‐cultivated crop in the United States, with high protein content and potential use as biofuel. Here we describe the use of a chimeric translational fusion of yeast trehalose‐6‐phosphate synthase (EC 2.4.1.15) and trehalose‐6‐phosphate phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.12) genes to engineer stress tolerance in alfalfa. The gene fusion was overexpressed using either the constitutive ...

This work demonstrates that in photothermal experiments performed in frequency domain the heat losses due to convection and radiation should be taken into account at low frequencies for poor heat conductors. From a model-solution of the heat diffusion equation a dimensionless frequency dependent parameter M = ZH, with sample's thermal impedance Z and H the convection-radiation heat transfer coefficient, turns out to adequately quantify the importance of the effect of those heat losses. A straightforward ...

We give a construction of genus fields for congruence function fields. First we consider the cyclotomic function field case following the ideas of Leopoldt and then the general case. As applications we give explicitly the genus fields of Kummer, Artin–Schreier and cyclic p-extensions. Kummer extensions were obtained previously by G. Peng and Artin–Schreier extensions were obtained by S. Hu and Y. Li.

This paper presents new equations for estimating above-ground biomass (AGB) and biomass components of seventeen forest species in the temperate forests of northwestern Mexico. A data set corresponding to 1336 destructively sampled oak and pine trees was used to fit the models. The generalized method of moments was used to simultaneously fit systems of equations for biomass components and AGB, to ensure additivity. In addition, the carbon content of each tree component was calculated by the dry combustion ...

We report on the high efficiency tunnel-injected ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV LEDs) emitting at 287 nm. Deep UV LED performance has been limited by the severe internal light absorption in the p-type contact layers and low electrical injection efficiency due to poor p-type conduction. In this work, a polarization engineered Al0.65Ga0.35N/In0.2Ga0.8N tunnel junction layer is adopted for non-equilibrium hole injection to replace the conventionally used direct p-type contact. A reverse-graded ...

Medium-range ordering (MRO) and structural heterogeneity in Zr-Cu-Co-Al metallic glasses (MGs) are characterized and their influence on ductility is investigated. Electric vehicle motors in e-drivetrain are equipped with grease-lubricated bearings operating at both low and high speeds with frequent speed changes. The grease-bearing system must secure a long lifespan and low frictional torque to improve efficiency and sustainability. The present paper focuses on the influence of two types of thickener, lithium complex and polypropylene, on the grease lubrication performance under conditions typical for e-motors. The comparison of both thickeners is performed ...

Four nonhalogenated ionic liquids (ILs) based on the same phosphonium cation are investigated in terms of the anion suitability for enhancing the lubricity of a biodegradable oil. For all test conditions, typical for industrial machine components, the lubrication is shown to be governed by nonsacrificial films formed by the physisorption of ionic species on the tribo-surfaces. The anionic structure appears to have an important role in the formation of friction modifying films. The orthoborate ILs ...

In this paper a novel switching ripple mitigation technique is developed and applied to the double dual boost converter (DDBC). Under the proposed scheme, an unconstrained selection of the voltage-gain-range at which the input-current ripple is mitigated is enabled. Furthermore, as an emerging advantage of this new strategy, we demonstrate that the elimination of the output-voltage ripple can be also achieved. The simultaneous input-current- and output-voltage ripple mitigation under a fixed but ...

We give a construction of genus fields for Kummer cyclic l-extensions of rational congruence function fields, l a prime number. First we find this genus field for a field contained in a cyclotomic function field using Leopoldt's construction by means of Dirichlet characters and the Hilbert class field defined by Rosen. The general case follows from this. This generalizes the result obtained by Peng for a cyclic extension of degree l.

Congenital Zika virus (ZIKV) syndrome may cause fetal microcephaly in ~1% of affected newborns. Here, we investigate whether the majority of clinically inapparent newborns might suffer from long-term health impairments not readily visible at birth. By contrast, low-dose (LD) maternal ZIKV infection resulted in reduced fetal birth weight but no other obvious phenotypes. ...

The epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a fundamental event responsible for the invasiveness and metastasis of epithelial tumours. The EMT has been described in many human cancers, but there are few reports of this phenomenon in veterinary oncology. Due to the importance of this process, the current study evaluated mesenchymal and epithelial marker protein expression in prostate lesions from dogs. Our results indicate both a loss of E-cadherin and translocation of β-catenin from the membrane ...
