Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is gaining track as an efficient/affordable therapy in poor settings. Yet, there is little data regarding differences in quality of life (QoL) of primary caregivers (PCG) of patients in PD and hemodialysis (HD).To compare the QoL of PCG of patients in PD and HD from an upper middle-income population in a Mexican city.Cross-sectional study was carried out with PCG of patients in PD (n=42) and HD (n=95) from 4 hospitals (response rate=70.2%). The first purpose of this article is to extend the Kaleckian model of growth and distribution to a two‐sector framework, taking into account the fact that the investment good is a basic good. The second objective is to present an analysis of the traverse. It is shown that such a traverse exists when for instance profit margins are changed or when inducements to invest change. The Kaleckian traverse does not require the restrictions on technology that the standard Hicksian traverse needs.

The techniques for placement of feeding tubes using fiberscopes are described and an evaluation of the results obtained in the last 12 months is made. The techniques are discussed and compared with other methods of enteral feeding known at present. It is concluded that placement of feeding tubes by endoscopy can be achieved easily, that it is possible to choose the site of enteric liberation of nutrients under conditions which previously represented contraindications, and that this procedure is ...

Living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) necessitates long-term health care follow-up, particularly with respect to antiretroviral therapy (ART) management. Taking advantage of the enormous possibilities afforded by information and communication technologies (ICT), we developed a virtual nursing intervention (VIH-TAVIE) intended to empower HIV patients to manage their ART and their symptoms optimally. ICT interventions hold great promise across the entire continuum of HIV patient care but further ...

In this paper the development of a self-management program to optimize long-term adherence to antiretroviral therapy for people living with HIV/AIDS is presented. The program is based on intervention mapping: that is, a framework that facilitates the use of theory and empirical evidence in intervention development. In the preparatory phase we conducted a needs-assessment. The results of this phase were then used in the operational phase in which the program was elaborated as follow: in Step 1 we ...

A study of phenological patterns in macromycete communities in Veracruz, Mexico was carried out in order to understand changes in community structure across regions of different vegetation types. Previous studies suggest that similarities in community composition occur when there are similarities in certain geographical and climatological characteristics, however they do not address functional groups or seasonal changes across regions. Macromycete communities in Veracruz showed similar species distribution ...

These characters indicate two independent species. This information is contrary to that of Guzmán in 1970, who interpreted S. bermudense to be a synonym of S. stellatum based on the similar spores. Research into the buffering mechanisms and ecological consequences of acidification in tropical streams is lacking. We have documented seasonal and episodic acidification events in streams draining La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. Across this forested landscape, the severity in seasonal and episodic acidification events varies due to interbasin groundwater flow (IGF). Streams that receive IGF have higher concentrations of solutes and more stable pH (~6) than streams that do not receive IGF ( ...

Nonetheless, crossing the border between U.S. and Mexico remains one of the most important challenges to the NAFTA ...

Recently, Psilocybe also included non-hallucinogenic species that have since been shifted to the genus Deconica. Here, we reconstruct a multigene phylogeny for Psilocybe, Deconica, and other exemplars of the families Hymenogastraceae and Strophariaceae sensu stricto (s. str.), using three nuclear markers (nLSU-rRNA, 5.8S rRNA, and rpb1). Understanding the long-term temporal variability of solar resource is fundamental in any assessment of solar energy potential. The variability of the solar resource (as shown by historical solar data) plays a significant role in the statistical description of the future performance of a solar power plant, thus influencing its financing conditions. In particular, solar-power financing is mainly based on a statistical quantification of the solar resource. In this work, a methodology for generating ...
