... and from where it is released into hypophysial portal blood. Administration of glycyrrhetinic acid (GE), a potent 11β-OHSD inhibitor, decreased CRF-41 release into hypophysial portal blood in the presence of unchanged circulating glucocorticoid levels, suggesting that 11β-OHSD regulates the effective corticosterone feedback signal to CRF-41 neurones. These effects of GE were not observed in adrenalectomized animals, demonstrating dependence on adrenal products. In contrast, GE led to two- to threefold increases in arginine vasopressin and oxytocin release into portal blood, effects also dependent upon intact adrenal glands. ...

A proper control of the geometrical accuracy of treated portals during radiotherapy results in higher quality of treatment and may lead to the increase in the therapeutic gain. In this work, an evaluation of an electronic portal imaging device (EPID) was made in the following aspects: the quality of images, the estimation of prolongation of the treatment, and the corrections introduced after EPIDs. We have archived 2430 portal images of 184 patients who were irradiated at our department. The following ...

The patients in three groups were injected with different concentrations of iodine (350 mgI/mL, 315 mgI/mL and 280 mgI/mL) at an injection rate of 4.0–5.0 mL/s with 1.2 mL/kg (body weight) of contrast medium, respectively. During the portal vein imaging phase, 0.625 mm-slice-thickness ...

Abstract A simplified seismic design procedure for steel portal frame piers installed with hysteretic dampers is proposed, which falls into the scope of performance‐based design philosophy. The fundamental goal of this approach is to design a suite of hysteretic damping devices for existing and new bridge piers, which will assure a pre‐defined target performance against future severe earthquakes. The proposed procedure is applicable to multi‐degree‐of‐freedom systems, utilizing an equivalent single‐ ...
