Introduction Previous research has shown that statin adherence for the primary prevention of CVD is lower compared to secondary prevention populations. Therefore the aim of this systematic review was to review predictors of statin adherence for the primary prevention of CVD. Methods A systematic search of papers published between Jan 1984 and May 2017 was conducted in PubMed, PsycINFO, EMbase and CINAHL databases. A study was eligible for inclusion if; 1) it was a study of the general population ...

Little is known about the effects of roads on populations of animals. Pienaar (1968) summarized the possible effects of roads on organisms in a national park, but most workers have been concerned with mortality of animals along roadways (e.g. Simmons 1938; Knobloch 1939; Haugen 1944; McClure 1951; Hodson 1966; Evenden 1971; Bellis & Graves 1971). Roads affect many mammals by facilitating access to food or by increasing the food supply, but they may lead to damaging or fatal accidents. Bellis & Graves ( ...

Recurrent peritonitis remains the most frequent cause of CAPD failure and is potentially preventable. Patients’ non-compliance with the technique and exit-site infection may be important factors in recurrent peritonitis. Patients who remain free of peritonitis for one year are unlikely to develop recurrent peritonitis. Treatment of peritonitis should be initiated as soon as symptoms develop. Delay in treatment may lead to septicemic shock and death. Patients who have three or more episodes of peritonitis ...

Abstract Upgrading mica by increasing aspect ratio and coupling efficiency and combining mica with fibers has led to new uses as a reinforcement for thermoplastics and thermosets. The greatest growth in mica use has been in the thermoplastics, such as polypropylene and thermoplastic polyesters. Effects to be expected from using mica as a reinforcement include improved tensile and flexural strength, much‐increased dimensional stability and heat resistance, enhanced stiffness and electrical resistivity, ...

In this study, four impression procedures were assessed for accuracy in a laboratory model that simulated clinical practice. The accuracy of stone casts with brass implant analogs was measured against a standard framework. The fit of the framework on the casts was tested by manual and visual judgment and by microscopic measurement. The measurements supported the clinical judgments. When acrylic resin was used to splint transfer copings in an impression, all casts were acceptable and were more accurate ...

A conundrum has arisen in the study of the structural states of the GroEL-GroES chaperonin machine: When either ATP or ADP is added along with GroES to GroEL, the same asymmetric complex, with one ring in a GroES-domed state, is observed by either x-ray crystallographic study or cryoelectron microscopy. Yet only ATP/GroES can trigger productive folding inside the GroES-encapsulated cis cavity by ejecting bound polypeptide from hydrophobic apical binding sites during attendant rigid body elevation ...
