A patient with Type VII pneumococcic pneumonia who was given Cortisone by inhalation is presented. Cortisone inhalation appears to be as effective as parenteral administration. The reaction of the host to the disease was favorably influenced. The bacterial agent was not influenced. Additional comfort and security may be afforded the critically ill patient by the use of Cortisone.

In the theory of representations of a finite group by linear transformations the closely related notions of imprimitivity and of play a prominent role. In [18] the author has generalized these notions to the case in which the group is a separable locally compact topological group and the linear transformations are unitary transformations in Hilbert space. It turns out (and this is the principle theorem of [18]) that the classical theorem of Frobenius according to which every imprimitive representation ...

Introduction. In an earlier article [911 the author developed at some length the theory of certain mathematical objects which he called linear systems. It is the purpose of the present paper to apply this theory to the study of convex topological linear spaces. This application is based on the many-to-one correspondence between convex topological linear spaces and linear systems which may be set up by assigning to each such space Xt the linear system XL where X is the abstract linear space underlying ...

In the study of the relationship between the representation theory of a group and those of its various subgroups an important role is played by Frobenius's notion of induced representation. To every representation L of the subgroup G of the finite group 65 there is assigned a well defined representation UL of ( called the representation of M induced by L. In I of this series [10] the author began a systematic study of a generalization of this notion in which (5 is a separable locally compact topological ...

4) This is what Löwig calls the affine dimension.(6) By M-\-N we mean the smallest subspace containing M and N. Moreover if A is an arbitrary subset of a linear space then by A + we mean the smallest subspace containing A. We call A -J-the linear span of A.(6) Our use of the word linear differs from that of many writers in that it has no topological implications.
