Abstract Urea is a compound widely used as a feed additive for ruminants; however, when used profusely, it can lead animals to intoxication. Another factor that affects the effectiveness of urea is the lack of synchronization between the nitrogen and the availability of carbohydrates, necessary for better development of the ruminal microbiota. In order to circumvent these problems and improve the efficiency in urea use, the present study developed two new nutritional additives (F16 and F17) with ...

High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is etiologically related to cervical cancer, other anogenital cancers and oropharyngeal carcinomas. Low-risk HPV, especially HPV6 and HPV11, cause genital warts and laryngeal papillomas. However, the accumulating data suggests that HPV6 and HPV11 may cause malignant lesions at non-cervical anatomic sites. This review aims to estimate the proportions of single and dual HPV6/11 infections in multiple cancers reported in the last 10 years in the Cochrane, Embasa ...

Biologists who study insect-induced plant galls are faced with the overwhelming diversity of plant forms and insect species. A challenge is to find common themes amidst this diversity. We discuss common themes that have emerged from our cytological and histochemical studies of diverse neotropical insect-induced galls. Gall initiation begins with recognition of reactive plant tissues by gall inducers, with subsequent feeding and/or oviposition triggering a cascade of events. Besides, to induce the ...

In this work, a new morphology was obtained for bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6-glyc) using a hydrothermal method with the addition of glycerol as a surfactant. In order to compare, the bismuth tungstate without glycerol as the surfactant, i.e., Bi2WO6, was synthesized. Structural characterization by XRD and Rietveld refinement confirmed the orthorhombic structure as a single phase for all samples with high crystallinity. All active modes in Raman spectroscopy for the orthorhombic phase of bismuth tungstate ...

Abstract An EtOH extract of the leaves of Casearia sylvestris afforded new clerodane diterpene, casearin X, together with the known compounds casearins B, D, L, and O, and caseargrewiin F. Casearin X degraded to the corresponding dialdehyde when stored in CDCl 3 . The diterpenes isolated were cytotoxic to human cancer cell lines, with caseargrewiin F being the most active and the new clerodane, casearin X, the second active compound with IC 50 values comparable to the positive control doxorubicin. ...

Bladder cancer has a high incidence and recurrence rate among patients worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic activity of fractions of Sambucus nigra L. flower extracts on bladder carcinoma cells (T24 cells) and human fibroblast cells (MRC-5). The butanolic fraction (F-BuOH) was characterized by UPLC-DAD-MS/MS and nine flavonoids were identified. Rutin was the major compound. The cytotoxic activity of this fraction was observed in the T24 cells but not in MRC-5 cells, indicating selectivity. ...

The aim of this paper is to give a brief overview of chemometric techniques based on factorial designs and response surface methodologies used in the optimization of electroanalytical methods. Chemometric techniques have several important advantages over one-way optimization for analytical applications, including a relatively low cost, a reduced number of experiments, and possibilities to evaluate interactions among variables. These techniques also enable the selection of optimal experimental conditions, ...
