This study aims to evaluate the influence of the milk production and parturiation order on the physicochemical composition of milk from Zebu breeds. The milk samples were collected during the Zebu Breed Milk Tournament of the 46th Agricultural Exhibition in Parnamirim, state of Rio Grande do Norte, and subsequently analyzed. The sampling of milk for the analysis was performed during the three days of the tournament. All samples were stocked individually in sterilized plastic flasks. Each flask was ...

Human untargeted metabolomics studies annotate only ~10% of molecular features. We introduce reference-data-driven analysis to match metabolomics tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) data against metadata-annotated source data as a pseudo-MS/MS reference library. Applying this approach to food source data, we show that it increases MS/MS spectral usage 5.1-fold over conventional structural MS/MS library matches and allows empirical assessment of dietary patterns from untargeted data. Metabolomics is improved ...

This work was carried out aiming to evaluate phytosociological parameters and the influence of topographic gradient and water levels on plant distribution in a vereda. That for, we sampled two sites (wet grassland and floodable transition to pond) in two seasons (rainy and dry). Along permanent transects, every 10 m we placed transversally four quadrats of 1 m2, 2 m apart, a total of 280 plots, to estimate percentage cover of each species and water depth. To evaluate the influence of relief and flood ...

Streptococcus agalactiae is one of the most common pathogens leading to mastitis in dairy herds worldwide; consequently, the pathogen causes major economic losses for affected farmers. In this study, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), genotypic capsular typing by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and virulence gene detection were performed to address the molecular epidemiology of 59 bovine (mastitis) S. agalactiae isolates from 36 dairy farms located in the largest milk-producing mesoregions ...

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on the treatment of tendinopathy induced in the superficial digital flexor tendon (TFDS) of horses, by using histologic evaluation. Six healthy crossbred geldings aged 8 to 15 years (12 ± 3) were used. The TFDS tendinopathy was provoked in both forelimbs, by intratendinous administration of 2.5 mg collagenase (2.5 mg/mL), and this procedure was considered as the beginning of the experimental phase. At 12 days after induction ...

Background and aims Human overnutrition has caused a rise in the prevalence of obesity in recent years. In addition to the deleterious effects of obesity during childhood, the long-term effects in adulthood have also been described. For instance, cardiovascular diseases, particularly left ventricular hypertrophy, and type 2 diabetes are among the diseases associated with a history of obesity. However, it remains uncertain during which period of life this association is established. Several authors ...

The human metabolome has remained largely unknown, with most studies annotating ~10% of features. In nucleic acid sequencing, annotating transcripts by source has proven essential for understanding gene function. Here we generalize this concept to stool, plasma, urine and other human metabolomes, discovering that food-based annotations increase the interpreted fraction of molecular features 7-fold, providing a general framework for expanding the interpretability of human metabolomic "dark matter."

Abstract Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the successful epilation of intraoral grafts using the diode laser system. Methods and Results: Two male patients at a 12‐month follow‐up – who underwent radical resection of oral cancer located in the mouth floor and tongue followed by reconstruction with cutaneous flap – showed hypertrichosis in the graft region, leading to dysphagia and dysphonia. The diode (980 nm) laser was performed for both cases in order to remove the ectopic hair. Excellent ...

Bell facial paralysis is the most common acute mono-neuropathy. It is a rapid unilateral facial nerve paresis, or paralysis, of unknown cause and with a myriad of treatment options. Low-intensity lasers cause a number of biologic effects as a result of interaction with tissues, such as increased repair capacity of nerve structures. Early initiation of laser treatment renders faster and better results. This study describes the case of a 54-year-old woman with leukoderma, with peripheral facial paralysis ...
