This study examines the relationship between floral structure and bud quality with the productivity and fruit shape of Gala, Fuji and Daiane apple cultivars under the mild winter conditions in Southern Brazil. Six different types of floral structures were characterized in field growing plants, according to their nature and bud size: spurs, short and long twigs with weak and vigorous buds. Variables related to the phenology and the productivity for these different structures were evaluated. Gala ...

The apple tree is characterized by the different flowering structures. The fruit production is related to the quality of the flowers, and several researches indicate that the characteristics of the flowering structure are fundamental in the flower development and, in consequence, the fruit as well. The objective of this study was to evaluate the possible influence of the flowering structure in the flower production and the fruit set in three apple cultivars: 'Gala', 'Fuji' and 'Daiane'. The highest ...

Apple shape is an important component of the visual fruit quality and can be influenced by several factors. The relationship between the fruiting structures and bud size in the fruit shape (length/diameter ratio) were evaluated in three different cultivars: 'Gala', 'Fuji' and 'Daiane'. The length/diameter ratio showed no statistical differences for 'Fuji' and 'Gala'. However, fruits of 'Daiane' showed differences in the L/D ratio related to the size of the twigs, but not for bud size. Fruits from long ...
