島根県中西部に分布する鮮新—更新統江津層群中のテフラを7地点から採取し,火山ガラスと構成鉱物の特徴を明らかにした.火山ガラスは4地点のテフラに含まれ,いずれも流紋岩質(SiO2=77.0-79.8wt.%)である.いずれのテフラにも普通角閃石,ジルコンが含まれるが,随伴する有色鉱物種によって(1)かんらん石,(2)斜方輝石・黒雲母,(3)カミングトン閃石・黒雲母,(4)カミングトン閃石を含む4つのグループに分けられる.これらの苦鉄質鉱物の化学組成と既存のジルコンのフィッション・トラック(FT)年代から,(2)のうち1.7±0.2Ma,1.7±0.1Maの2試料,(3)のうち1.1±0.1Maの2試料の対比が可能である.また,(3)のテフラは大江高山火山起源と考えられる.江津層群中のテフラの諸特徴を明らかにすることは,今後の西南日本の鮮新—更新統の対比にとって有効と考えられる.

頸部郭清術後リンパ漏は比較的まれな合併症であるが,効果的な治療法がないため,難治例では治療に難渋する場合がある.我々は局所圧迫および脂肪食制限の保存的療法で軽快をみない症例を対象としてミノサイクリン局所注入療法を施行し,良好な結果を得ている.ミノサイクリン局所注入はミノサイクリンの高い酸性度および細胞毒性を利用し,癒着を目的として他科領域でも多く用いられており,重大な副作用の報告もみられていない.今回我々の経験より,術後頸部リンパ漏難治例に対し積極的な応用が可能であると考えられた.

鮮新-更新統江津層群は,島根県大田市南部三瓶山西麓から浜田市にかけての日本海沿いの地域に分布する.江津層群のうち,その中部にあたる島の星層の堆積環境は,河川の中下流域と考えられていたが,詳細な堆積相の認定などはされていない.本研究では,江津市江の川東側に位置する室神山周辺の東西2.5km,南北2kmの範囲において,堆積相とその空間分布,古流向から,扇状地の堆積環境を検討した.島の星層の堆積相は,Gmm(土石流堆積物),Gb(斜面崩壊堆積物),St(網状河川堆積物),Sm(水中重力流堆積物),Fsm(湖沼堆積物)からなる.この地域の層序は,GmmとStの繰り返しで,一部にFsmを含む.堆積相Stから測定される古流向は,主に西北西向きである.堆積相Gmm,Stが卓越することから,島の星層の堆積環境は土石流卓越型扇状地で,そこには西北西向きの網状河川が形成されていたと考えられる.

島根県中西部に分布する鮮新—更新統江津層群のテフラ中から,コランダム,水酸化Al鉱物,トパーズ,紅柱石,ガーネットを発見した.本論文では,これらのAlに富む鉱物の形態と組成,それらを含むテフラの堆積学的特徴,およびテフラより下位の砂層中の重鉱物を報告し,Alに富む鉱物の起源について検討した.Alに富む鉱物は,再堆積の影響がほとんどないテフラにも含まれており,自形ないし摩耗されていない形態を考え合わせると,火山噴出時のテフラそのものに含まれていた可能性が高い.このことは,テフラの下位の砂層中にAlに富む鉱物が認められないことからも支持される.さらに,基盤岩中の鉱物に関する既存の研究や,テフラと基盤との空間的関係からも,岩屑起源の可能性は低い.Alに富む鉱物の起源はマグマ中の捕獲結晶か,マグマと周囲の泥質または石灰質岩との間の反応生成物と考えられる.これらの鉱物はテフラの特徴を示すものであり,テフラの同定や鍵層としての有効性を示すものである.

日本製紙江津工場は日本で唯一のSP(亜硫酸蒸解)法によるパルプ工場である。工程で発生するSP黒液は,エバポレーターにて濃縮し,回収ボイラーの燃料等に利用してきた。近年,エバポレーターの濃縮能力が低下し,パルプ減産の大きな要因となっていた。そこで,パルプ生産量の増加を目的に新設エバポレーター導入の検討をおこなった。
