The development of immunosensors for the detection of small molecules is of great interest because of their simplicity, high sensitivity and extended analytical range. Due to their size, small compounds cannot be simultaneously recognized by two antibodies impeding their detection by noncompetitive two-site immunoassays, which are superior to competitive ones in terms of sensitivity, kinetics, and working range. In this work, we combine the advantages of magneto-electrochemical immunosensors with ...

Immunosensors for small analytes have been a great addition to the analytical toolbox due to their high sensitivity and extended analytical range. In these systems the analyte is detected when it competes for binding to the detecting antibody with a tracer compound. In this work we introduce the use of phage particles bearing peptides that mimic the target analyte as surrogates for conventional tracers. As a proof of concept, we developed a magneto-electrochemical immunosensor (EI) for the herbicide ...

This is the first study to analyze variations in time estimation during 60 h of sleep deprivation and the relation between time estimation performance and the activation measures of skin resistance level, body temperature, and Stanford Sleepiness Scale (SSS) scores. Among 30 healthy participants 18 to 24 years of age, for a 10-s interval using the production method, we found a lengthening in time estimations that was modulated by circadian oscillations. No differences in gender were found in the ...

A synthetic peptide (GU4) derived from an antigen B (AgB) subunit was serologically compared with crude antigen (HCFA); immunopurified AgB and antigen 5 (Ag5), and two other synthetic peptides, for diagnosis of human cystic hydatidosis. GU4 was derived from the sequence of AgB/2, the novel AgB subunit described by us. The other two peptides: 65 (AgB mimotope) and 89–122 (Ag5 mimotope), were described by others. Antigens B and 5 showed higher diagnostic sensitivity than corresponding peptides. All sera ...

Research on immunoassays and immunosensors is currently focused mainly on the development of strategies to amplify the resulting signal. In this sense, the development of new hapten tracers that allow simpler, more sensitive, and more reliable immunoassays is desirable. Therefore, we present the development of an electrochemical immunosensor using viral particles (phages) bound with dozens of CdS nanocrystals (CdS NCs) as an outperforming alternative to conventional competitive hapten conjugates. ...

This work presents a novel methodology to predict large magnitude earthquakes with horizon of prediction of five days. For the first time, imbalanced classification techniques are applied in this field by attempting to deal with the infrequent occurrence of such events. So far, classical classifiers were not able to properly mine these kind of datasets and, for this reason, most of the methods reported in the literature were only focused on moderate magnitude prediction. As an additional step, outputs ...

The present work describes the purification and characterization of antigen B (AgB), the thermostable lipoprotein from E. granulosus . Native AgB was purified to homogeneity by a new strategy involving adsorption on DEAE‐Sepharose, followed by immunopurification. The purified antigen was analysed using mapped monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) and peptide isolation by in situ digestion in gels after SDS‐PAGE. Epitope mapping of 7 MoAbs using PEPSCAN, synthetic peptides and competition studies, revealed that ...

Due to the high costs of commercial monitoring instruments, a portable sun photometer was developed at INPE/CRN laboratories, operating in four bands, with two bands in the visible spectrum and two in near infrared. The instrument calibration process is performed by applying the classical Langley method. Application of the Langley’s methodology requires a site with high optical stability during the measurements, which is usually found in high altitudes. However, far from being an ideal site, Harrison ...

Abstract Vaccines represent preventative interventions amenable to immunogenetic prediction of how human variability will influence their safety and efficacy. The genetic polymorphism among individuals within any population can render possible that the immunity elicited by a vaccine is variable in length and strength. The same immune challenge (virus and/or vaccine) could provoke partial, complete or even failed protection for some individuals treated under the same conditions. We review genetic ...

Nevertheless, under civil law, the diagnosis of PTSD alone does not constitute sufficient evidence given that in legal terms faking or false testimony must be detected ...

Recombinant single domain antibodies (nanobodies) constitute an attractive alternative for the production of neutralizing therapeutic agents. Their small size warrants rapid bioavailability and fast penetration to sites of toxin uptake, but also rapid renal clearance, which negatively affects their performance. In this work, we present a new strategy to drastically improve the neutralizing potency of single domain antibodies based on their fusion to a second nanobody specific for the complement receptor ...

Penicillin is one of the most widely used antibiotics to treat bacterial infections in clinical practice. The antibiotic undergoes degradation under physiological conditions to produce reactive compounds that in vivo bind self-proteins. Penicillin allergy delabeling initiatives are now part of antibiotic stewardship programs and include the use of invasive and ...
