The provisions in the will of Augustus concerning the boundaries of Roman empire came to be disregarded. The Rhine and the Danube, indeed, formed the Northern frontier of the Empire in continental Europe, and mountains and desert bordered the Empire on the east and the south and the Atlantic Ocean on the west. Yet, in spite of the fact that the Danube formed a natural boundary that was relatively secure in Eastern Europe, two areas remained vulnerable and caused the strategists of Rome great anxiety: ...

The British Museum (Department of the Ancient Near East) holds many fragments from Mesopotamian statues and memorial stelas made of dark stone, mostly dating from the late third millennium BC. They are catalogued here, with references to related documentation which suggests that Agade may have been located on the Tigris near Qadisiyah and which throws additional light on statues reputedly found at Telloh in the 1920s. An accompanying paper by Dr Karen Leslie discusses the identification of the stones.

The culture of academic medical institutions impacts trainee education, among many other faculty and patient outcomes. Disrespectful behavior by faculty is one of the most challenging and common problems that, left unattended, disrupts healthy work and learning environments. Conversely, a respectful environment facilitates learning, creates a sense of safety, and rewards professionalism. The authors developed surveys and an intervention in an effort to better understand and improve climate concerns ...

Anatomical particularities of the digestive tract in the rabbit and chinchilla require careful evaluation due the fact that these two species are used both as experimental model or pets. We studied the topography of large intestine in ten rabbits and ten chinchillas using regional and stratigraphic dissection. Focusing on anatomical particularities as well as differences, the aims of this study is an accurate description of lower digestive tract in rabbits and chinchillas. The large intestine has ...

Abstract Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare benign neoplasm which occurs primarily in male adolescents and is characterized by aggressive local growth. The controversy concerning appropriate treatment for patients with juvenile angiofibroma persists. Radiation therapy and surgical resection have both been reported to be effective to control a high proportion of these tumours. The case reported here demonstrates a locally advanced JNA controlled by radiation therapy.

The status of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) is decisive in staging, prognosis, and therapeutic approach. Using an ultrasonographic examination algorithm composed of B-mode, Doppler technique, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and elastography, this study aimed to determine the diagnostic performance of the four techniques compared to histopathological examination. 96 SLNs belonging to 71 female dogs with mammary gland carcinomas were examined. After examinations, mastectomy and lymphadenectomy were ...

Abstract This study is meant to illustrate and describe the features of the auditory ossicles of the chinchilla ( Chinchilla lanigera ), one of the species used more and more frequently in otology and ear surgery as animal model. Cephalic extremities of 12 C. lanigera individuals obtained from a private farm, where this species was bred for fur, were used in this study. The ossicles were obtained either by direct surgical harvesting by mastoid approach or after a dermestid beetle exposure followed by ...
