Objective: The lack of distinction in the clinical use of terms like fatigue and sleepiness is an important issue. While both fatigue and sleepiness can potentially be associated with nonrestorative sleep (NRS) complaints, their relationships are still poorly described. We propose to use Rasch analysis-based methods to study the interrelations of fatigue, sleepiness and NRS. Methods: 150 subjects (mean age = 39.3 years, range = 18–65) from a community sample underwent ...

Background/Aims: One of the core symptoms of the chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is unrefreshing sleep and a subjective sensation of poor sleep quality. Whether this perception can be expressed, in a standardized questionnaire as the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), has to our knowledge never been documented in CFS. Furthermore, correlations of subjective fatigue, PSQI, affective symptoms and objective parameters such as sleep efficiency are poorly described in the literature. < ...

The estrogen-induced tumor protein previously described by us in the receptor-positive MCF-7 cells was resolved here by two-step fractionation into four proteins of 46, 5Z 54 and 60,000 Mr. These proteins differ from the uterine IP (48,000 Mr) by being slightly more acidic and by lacking creatine kinase activity. Furthermore, they are not stimulated in Evsa-T cells lacking the estrogen receptors. In MCF-7 cells estrogenic stimulation also provokes a broad spectrum of changes in the secreted proteins. ...

INTRODUCTION: Paratrooper training courses are very demanding, leading to a high number of drop-outs, despite existing selection criteria. This study investigated physiological, neuropsychological, and subjective data of completers and drop-outs during paratrooper training to identify potential predictive indices. METHODS: Tested were 24 paratrooper soldiers before (t 0 ), after 8 wk (t 1 ), and at the end of a 12-wk training camp (t 2 ). There were 11 soldiers who completed the course and 13 dropped out. We performed a subgroup analysis according to baseline CHA2DS2-VASc score and assessed both the relative and absolute differences in stroke/SE and major bleeding. Baseline CHA2DS2- ...

Accountability is the obligation to perform a task according to current regulations and to subsequently report on the execution of said task to a principal. Today, after the enactment of several laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in the USA and Financial Security Act in France, and the more rigorous management of a large number of audit firms, trust in the financial and accounting information does not yet seem to have been restored and the expectation gap remains. Accountability is not just related ...

Background: The prognosis and treatment of patients with prolonged asystole during head‐up tilt test (HUT) remain controversial. The aim of this study was to identify factors predicting a favorable outcome in patients with unexplained syncope who have an asystolic response during HUT. Methods: Passive HUT was performed at 60° for up to 45 minutes in 329 patients (162 women and 167 men, mean age 38 ± 22 years). Isoproterenol was given in escalating doses when passive HUT was negative. Asystole was defined ...
