Background/Aims: Cardiorenal syndrome type 1 (CRS1) is a syndrome characterized by a rapid worsening of cardiac function leading to acute kidney injury (AKI). The aims of this study were to investigate the risk factors and the prognosis of CRS1 in elderly patients. Methods: A total of 312 elderly patients (≥60 years old) with acute heart failure (AHF) were studied. They were assigned as CRS1 (suffered from in-hospital AKI) or NCRS1 ( ...

Quantifying the interactions between topography, climate and plant diversity within one of the world's biodiversity hotspots, the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau, remains elusive due to few reliable quantitative paleoelevation reconstructions, precise geological age constraints and well-preserved plant fossils. The Lühe Basin, on the southeastern margin of Tibetan Plateau has yielded abundant plant fossils with a U-Pb age of 33–32 Ma, providing an opportunity to estimate the elevation ...

Mulberry pomace, as a by-product of juice and wine making, was investigated as a potential source of natural anthocyanins. The results showed that anthocyanin contents in mulberry pomace from two varieties were above 250 mg/100 g, that is 74%-79% of that in mulberry whole fruit. Thus, mulberry pomace could be a potential anthocyanins source. The anthocyanins in mulberry pomace had an attractive red colour with the chroma at 5.0 and hue angle at 6.8. Five anthocyanins were identified in mulberry ...

Background China is the most populous country globally and has made significant achievements in the control of infectious diseases over the last decades. The 2003 SARS epidemic triggered the initiation of the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention (CISDCP). Since then, numerous studies have investigated the epidemiological features and trends of individual infectious diseases in China; however, few considered the changing spatiotemporal trends and seasonality of these infectious ...

Wearable humidity sensors play an important role in human health monitoring. However, challenges persist in realizing high performance wearable humidity sensors with fast response and good stretchability and durability. Here we report wearable humidity sensors employing an ultrathin micro-nano hierarchical hydrogel-carbon nanocomposite. The nanocomposite is synthesized on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films via a facile two-step solvent-free approach, which creates a hierarchical architecture consisting ...

A new ether-based electrolyte with tetrahydrofuran (THF) and di-isopropyl ether (DIPE) is proposed for Lithium–Sulfur battery (LSB). By employing the common ion effect and the weakly-solvating solvent (such as DIPE), the dissolution of lithium polysulfides and the self-discharge effect are effectively inhibited. Besides, the LiFSI has be used as the co-salt in the LiTFSI-based electrolyte to improve the ionic conductivity and inhibit the side reaction on Li metal anode. It is worth mentioning that, ...

The transfer mechanism of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) being trapped inside the various types of adsorbents is usually regarded as mere diffusion. This paper investigated the contribution of convective mass transfer inside the adsorbents used for VOC air-cleaning. The adsorbents are typically characterized by their high porosity and thickness which can be as thin as hundreds of microns. By numerical simulation, it was found that the air flow could penetrate the adsorbent matrix when the porosity ...

Hypoxia inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) is a transcription factor composed of two subunits, namely, HIF-1α and HIF-1β, in which HIF-1β is constitutively expressed. HIF-1 upregulates several hypoxia-responsive proteins, including angiogenesis factors, glycolysis solution enzymes, and cell survival proteins. HIF-1 is also associated with the degree of inflammation in the tumor region, but the exact mechanism remains unclear. This study aims to identify the molecular mechanism of recruiting monocytes/macrophages ...

DUF966 gene family is found in monocotyledons and mosses. However, little is known of their functions in wheat. In this study, we identified DUF966 gene family in wheat by in silico analysis. Consequently, 28 DUF966 proteins were found in wheat reference genome, which can be phylogenetically divided into two sub-groups (Group I and II). A highly conserved ...
