The difficulty of maintaining adequate nutritional status in cancer patients is well recognized [I, 181. Recently there has been considerable interest in the clinical use of intravenous diets to support these patients [2, 51. Although present evidence strongly suggests that the cancer patient receiving chemoor radiotherapy is significantly benefited by parenteral nutrition, there exists little information on the metabolic changes induced in tumor and host tissue by parenteral nutrition. There are significant differences in attenuation coefficients between normal and infarcted myocardium measurable with a computerized transaxial tomographic scanner. Additionally, iodinated contrast material administered prior to killing the test animals resulted in excellent visualization of the blood-myocardial interface at a time when standard radiographs detected no differences between the ventricular cavity and the myocardial wall. These natural and induced changes in attenuation coefficients ...

Mutagenic activity was found in the urine of 10 patients given therapeutic dosages of metronidazole orally or per vagina. Paper chromatographic separation revealed that mutagenicity in the urine was associated with unmodified metronidazole and at least four of its known urinary metabolites. Activity was also recovered in a region of the chromato- gram heretofore not assigned to a metronidazole metabolite.

Our studies have shown that early stages of the reproductive process in female English sole (Parophrys vetulus) are disrupted by contaminant exposure. To determine the potential for contaminants to affect later stages of the reproductive cycle, we examined the effects of maternal contaminant exposure on egg and larval viability in this species, in a field study conducted on running ripe fish collected for two consecutive years from spawning grounds. Maternal contaminant exposure was assessed by measuring ...
