Increased intrauterine microbial colonization by bacteria culture method and occurrence of endometritis have been reported in women with endometriosis. Here we investigated microbial colonization in intrauterine environment and cystic fluid of women with and without endometriosis by molecular approach. This is a case-controlled biological study with a total of 32 women each with and without endometriosis. Among them, 16 each in these two groups of women received treatment with gonadotropin-releasing ...

Objective Endometriosis is commonly believed to originate from functionalis endometrium and adenomyosis from basalis endometrium. Due to the lack of enough information, we investigated the biological differences between these two layers of endometrium in women with and without adenomyosis. Study design This was a case-controlled study with 12 control women and 17 women with adenomyosis undergoing hysterectomy. Full thickness (extending from the endometrium to the myometrium) biopsy specimens were ...

To investigate the effect of dimethoxymethylsilyl-terminated polypropylene oxide (DMSi-PPO) elastomer particles on the toughening of epoxy resin, the particles were prepared in liquid bisphenol A-type epoxy resin by means of the dynamic vulcanization method. With the addition of aminosilane (AMS), the fracture energy G1c values of adhesive joints and the T-peel bond strength were more than three times those of the unmodified system without a decrease in Tg. Observations of the modified epoxy resin ...

Ataxia telangiectasia (AT) cells, with their defective double-strand break (DSB) repair processes, exhibit high sensitivity to low-LET radiation such as X-rays irradiation and gamma beams. Since heavy ion beam treatment for cancer is becoming increasingly common in Japan and elsewhere, it is important to also determine their sensitivity to high-LET radiation. For this purpose we irradiated AT and normal human cells immortalized with the human telomerase gene using high- (24–60 keV/μm carbon and 200 ...

Phosphate toxicity is an important determinant of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly those undergoing hemodialysis treatments. CKD patients are advised to take a low phosphate-containing diet, and are additionally prescribed with phosphate-lowering drugs. Since these patients usually seek guidance from their physicians and nurses for their dietary options, we conducted a survey to determine the levels of awareness regarding the high phosphate content in commercially ...

Hyperphosphatemia is an important determinant of morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Patients with CKD are advised to consume a low phosphate diet and are often prescribed phosphate-lowering drug therapy. However, commercially processed food and drinks often contain phosphate compounds, but the phosphate level is not usually provided in the ingredient list, which makes it difficult for CKD patients to choose a correct diet. We conducted a survey of the awareness ...

Abstract Purpose Surgery for endometriomas may cause detrimental effects on ovarian reserve. We evaluated the safety of three‐step laparoscopic surgery for endometriomas utilizing dienogest in terms of post‐surgical ovarian reserve. Methods Twelve women received first look laparoscopy (FLL) with fenestration and drainage. Immediately after the surgery, they took oral dienogest 2 mg for three months; then, they received second look laparoscopy (SLL) with cystectomy. We compared serum AMH levels between ...

Background: As its name indicates, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is primarily found as an inhibitor of the Müllerian duct in male fetus. On the other hand, AMH may act as a mediator of Müllerian duct-derived female tissue, such as endometrium in normal and pathological conditions. However, the role of AMH in the functional regulations of endometriosis is not well understood. It can be hypothesized that AMH in peritoneal fluids may affect the activity of peritoneal endometriosis. In this study, we ...

Abstract In order to investigate the effect of phase structure on the adhesion properties of the dimethoxysilyl-terminated polypropylene oxide (DMSi-PPO)/diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) system, various cured resins with different phase structures obtained by varying the formulations and curing temperatures were prepared. DGEBA that formed micro-order spherical domains reinforced the DMSi-PPO matrix in the cured system. Under ambient cure conditions, the adhesion properties of the cured system ...

The effects of taurine on hepatic cholesterol metabolism were investigated in hamsters fed a high-fat diet or normal chow. Two weeks-treatment of taurine at 1% in drinking water prevented high-fat diet-induced increase in cholesterol levels of serum and liver. The decrease in serum cholesterol by taurine was due to decrease in non-HDL cholesterols. A similar tendency was noted in serum and liver cholesterol levels of hamsters fed a normal diet. In hamsters fed a high-fat diet, taurine prevented ...

Abstract While the hypocholesterolemic effects of taurine have extensively been studied using experimental animals, the anti-atherosclerotic effects of taurine have been given less attention. We examined the effect of taurine on atherosclerotic lesions in Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic (WHHL) rabbits. Treatment of WHHL rabbits with taurine (0.3% in drinking tap water) for 24 weeks decreased aortic lesions by 31%, estimated as intimal thickening. Taurine significantly decreased cholesteryl ester content ...

SUMMARY 1. The effects of taurine on the development of atherosclerotic lesions were investigated in apolipoprotein (apo) E‐deficient mice, an animal model with severe hypercholesterolaemia and extensive atherosclerosis. These mice were fed a normal laboratory chow containing 2% taurine for 12 weeks. 2. Serum total cholesterol was significantly elevated after 12 weeks treatment with taurine. This elevation was due to increases in very low‐density lipoprotein‐ and low‐density lipoprotein–cholesterol. ...

Good electrical quality Si oxynitride was successfully grown at room temperature using magnetically excited ( N 2 + Ar) plasma. Si oxynitride, probably Si\SubtN\SubtO, was grown only when Ar was mixed with N 2 , while SiO\Subt was solely formed with N 2 only. At the top surface of the grown film with mixed gas, SiO\Subt was always grown due to residual oxygen in N 2 gas, so that the SiO\Subt/Si\Subt N 2 O structure was always obtained. Good capacitance-voltage characteristics were obtained although the ...

The content of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) in sweat during exercise is considerably higher during a relatively low intake of sodium (Na) of 100 mmol/d than with an intake of 170 mmol/d. For this reason and also because Ca and Mg have a negative bal ance with a Na intake of 100 mmol/d, we analyzed the relationship between Na intake and balances of Ca and Mg in data from 11 balance studies. From 1986 to 2000, 109 volunteers (23 males, 8 6 females) with an age range of 18 to 2 8 y took part in mineral ...

The role of different subtypes of P2 purinoceptors on cytosolic Ca2+ level ([Ca2+]i) was examined in vascular smooth muscle of rat aorta. αβ-Methylene-ATP (P2x agonist), 2-methylthio-ATP (P2Y agonist), UTP and ATPγS (P2U agonists), and ATP (nonselective P2 agonist) induced a transient increase followed by a small sustained increase in [Ca2+]i in a concentration dependent manner. Among these agonists, αβ-methylene-ATP was the most potent. In the absence of extracellular Ca2+ (with 0.5 mM EGTA), ATP, UTP ...
