Norwegian early childhood education policy seems to have begun to shift from emphasising playing and the development of the whole child to preparing children for school. This shift has been highlighted by the Norwegian early childhood sector as undesirable "schoolification". However, mathematics education is rarely mentioned in these discussions and its role has not been previously examined. In this paper, representations of mathematics education in both Norwegian and Organisation of Economic Co- ...

Four chiral perfluoroalkylated monodentate phosphorus(III) ligands have been prepared and characterised. These ligands have been evaluated in the rhodium-catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation of dimethyl itaconate in both dichloromethane and supercritical CO2 (scCO2) and compared with the parent, non-perfluoroalkylated, catalyst systems.

After disappointing results from all efficacy trials conducted to date, the field of microbicides research now faces substantial challenges. Poor coordination among interested parties and the choice of nonvalidated scientific targets for phase III studies have hampered progress and created mistrust about the use of microbicides as a method to prevent HIV-1 sexual transmission. Although new promising strategies are available, there will need to be serious reappraisals of how decisions are made to ...

Of the 16 non-structural proteins (Nsps) encoded by SARS CoV-2, Nsp3 is the largest and plays important roles in the viral life cycle. Being a large, multidomain, transmembrane protein, Nsp3 has been the most challenging Nsp to characterize. Encoded within Nsp3 is the papain-like protease domain (PLpro) that cleaves not only the viral polypeptide but also K48-linked polyubiquitin and the ubiquitin-like modifier, ISG15, from host cell proteins. We here compare the interactors of PLpro and Nsp3 and ...

The use of supercritical difluoromethane (scHFC 32) as a solvent is demonstrated for the polymerisation of methyl methacrylate. It is shown that appreciably higher molecular weight polymer can be obtained using scHFC 32 than scCO2, which is due to the higher solubility of the polymer in the more polar fluid. The solubility of various polymer standards is characterised at two pressures in scHFC 32 and is shown to be appreciable up to a molecular weight of 11 000 g mol−1 whereas in scCO2 the polymer ...

We report on familial occurrence of the Brachmann-de Lange syndrome (BDLS): a mildly affected father and his severely affected son and daughter who have different mothers. Both children are severely affected while the father has a much milder but definite BDLS phenotype. Our report documents the third example of male-to-male transmission and adds to the argument against exclusively maternal transmission in familial cases. In addition, our findings illustrate the occurrence of severe manifestations ...
