Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine) is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide used to kill weeds that compete with commercial crops. In Argentina, the use of glyphosate-based herbicides increased dramatically (up to ∼200,000 tons on 2012) since the introduction of glyphosate-resistant crops, such as transgenic soy and resistant corn, and the adoption of non-till practices in the 1990′s. Sallow lakes within the Pampa region may be potentially impacted by continuous herbicide usage. We surveyed 52 shallow ...

Understanding the mechanisms of Human Immunodeficiency Virus type I (HIV-1) pathogenesis would facilitate the identification of new therapeutic targets to control the infection in face of current antiretroviral therapy limitations. CD74 membrane expression is up-regulated in HIV-1 infected cells and the magnitude of its modulation correlates with immune hyperactivation in HIV-infected individuals. Additionally, plasma level of the CD74 activating ligand MIF (Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor) ...

A new calix[4]arene thiourea derivative bearing a benzothiazolyl moiety (L) was synthetized and characterized by single crystal X-ray, NMR and ESI-TOF. The binding ability of the bifunctional receptor towards several ions was investigated in acetonitrile by means of UV–Visible and NMR spectroscopy. The UV–Vis studies of receptor L demonstrated a stoichiometry of 1:1 for all ions studied. Also, recognize selectively F− and Cd2+ with a detection limit of 97 and 37 μM, respectively. Also, 1H NMR titration ...

Calix[4]arenes-based fluorescent chemosensors containing thiosemicarbazone as a binding site and naphthalene as a fluorogenic unit in a 1,3-alternate (L1) and cone (L2) conformation, were synthesized and examined for their binding abilities towards anions and cations using different spectroscopic techniques. Both receptors L1 and L2, exhibited an off/on fluorescence behaviour due to complex formation with Cu(II). They showed selective recognition of Cu(II) in presence of other cations and anions detecting ...
