Silkworm (Bombyx mori) is an important economic insect and a model species for Lepidopteran. Each year, O,O-diethyl O-(alpha-cyanobenzylideneamino) phosphorothioate (phoxim) pesticide poisoning in China results in huge economic losses in sericulture. Silkworm fat body is the main organ for nutrient storage, energy supply, intermediary metabolism, and detoxification. Microarray analysis of silkworm Cytochrome P450 detoxification enzyme genes revealed that all tested P450 4 (CYP4) family genes are expressed ...

Subarachnoid hemorrhage usually results in poor clinical outcome and devastating neurological deficits. The early brain injury and delayed vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are involved in the poor prognosis to the patients, while the mechanisms have not been well elucidated. Previous studies found an up-regulation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), inflammatory factors and high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in the cortex after SAH. Increased inflammatory response contributes to the early brain ...

Phoxim (O,O-diethyl O-(alpha-cyanobenzylideneamino) phosphorothioate) is a powerful organophosphorus pesticide with high potential for Bombyx mori larvae of silkworm exposure. However, it is possible that during the phoxim metabolism, there is generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phoxim may produce oxidative stress and neurotoxicity in an intoxicated silkworm. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) pretreatment has been demonstrated to increase antioxidant capacity and acetylcholinesterase ( ...

Recent meta-analyses have suggested a modest protective effect of high levels of physical activity on developing both prostate and bladder cancer, but significant heterogeneity between studies included in these meta-analyses existed. To our knowledge, few Chinese studies investigated the association between physical activity and prostate cancer and none between physical activity and bladder cancer. Given the inconsistencies between previous studies and because studies on the relation between physical ...

Abstract CeCl 3 can reduce the damage caused by OP pesticides, in this study we used the brain of silkworms to investigate the mechanism of CeCl 3 effects on pesticide resistance. The results showed that phoxim treatments led to brain damages, swelling and death of neurons, chromatin condensation and mitochondrial damage. Normal nerve conduction was severely affected by phoxim treatments, as revealed by: increases in the contents of neurotransmitters Glu, NO and ACh by 63.65%, 61.14% and 98.54%, ...

Phoxim is a useful organophosphate (OP) pesticide used in agriculture in China, however, exposure to this pesticide can result in a significant reduction in cocooning in Bombyx mori (B. mori). Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) have been shown to decrease phoxim-induced toxicity in B. mori; however, very little is known about the molecular mechanisms of silk gland damage due to OP exposure and repair of gland damage by TiO2 NP pretreatment. In the present study, exposure to phoxim resulted in ...

Abstract DNA glycosylases must distinguish the sparse damaged sites from the vast expanse of normal DNA bases. However, our understanding of the nature of nucleobase interrogation is still limited. Here, we show that hNEIL1 (human endonuclease VIII-like 1) captures base lesions via two competing states of interaction: an activated state that commits catalysis and base excision repair, and a quarantine state that temporarily separates and protects the flipped base via auto-inhibition. The relative ...

As one of the critical indicators of the lake ecosystem, the lake surface water temperature is an important indicator for measuring lake ecological environment. However, there is a complex nonlinear relationship between lake surface water temperature and climate variables, making it difficult to accurately predict. Fortunately, satellite remote sensing provides a wealth of data to support further improvements in prediction accuracy. In this paper, we construct a new deep learning model for mining ...

This paper reported a novel method for the determination of total phosphorus (TP) content in soil and sludge by a headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) method. It was based on a reaction between the soluble phosphate in the digestion solution and calcium oxalate solid to form a calcium phosphate precipitate and release oxalate ions, which can react with permanganate to form carbon dioxide, which was then measured by HS-GC. The results showed the complete conversion of phosphate (meanwhile to free oxalate ...

Translocation of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) from nucleus could trigger inflammation. Extracellular HMGB1 up-regulates inflammatory response in sepsis as a late mediator. However, little was known about its role in subarachnoid hemorrhage-inducible inflammation, especially in the early stage. This study aims to identify whether HMGB1 translocation occurred early after SAH and also to clarify the potential role of HMGB1 in brain injury following SAH. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided ...

Silkworm (Bombyx mori) is an economically important insect. It is relatively less resistant to certain chemicals and environment exposures such as pesticides and pathogens. After pesticide exposures, the silkworms are more susceptible to microbial infections. The mechanism underlying the susceptibility might be related to immune response and oxidative stress.A sublethal dose of phoxim combined with Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) elevated the silkworm mortality at 96 h. We found a higher ...
