Ben De Pauw, Francis Berghmans, Hugo Thienpont, Piet Verdiere, Thomas Geernaert,
High cycle rates are important in commercial weaving machines to maximize productivity. Faster operation, however, can lead to higher tension on the yarns, which in turn increases the occurrence of yarn breakage and thus machine interruptions. Significant work has therefore been conducted to improve the many weaving machine components with the goal to attain higher production rates without increasing the yarn loads. Quantifying the impact of such improvements is not always possible using conventional, ...

Abstract This study deals with the numerical modelling of residual stresses and distortions occurring during wire arc additive manufacturing of ER 5183 parts with weaving deposition. It is shown that the mesh size, as well as the accurate implementation of the heat source weaving pattern has a significant impact on the results. The mechanical material properties for the simulation are evaluated utilizing in-house standardized test equipment. Validation of the thermo-mechanical simulation is done ...

The problem of classifying Woven Fabric Motifs through pattern recognition can be addressed using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Existing CNN architectures like VGG, ResNet, MobileNet, and DenseNet offer diverse propagation methods. These architectures, trained on datasets like imagenet, have demonstrated competence in solving large-scale classification tasks. The CNN model trained on the ImageNet dataset, hereinafter referred to as the pre-trained model, can be utilized to address the classification ...

Hugo Pompougnac, Ulysse Beaugnon, Albert Cohen, Dumitru Potop Butucaru,
We investigate the programming of reactive systems combining closed-loop control with performance-intensive components such as Machine Learning (ML). Reactive control systems are often safety-critical and associated with real-time execution requirements, a domain of predilection for synchronous programming languages. Extending the high levels of assurance found in reactive control systems to computationally intensive code remains an open issue. We tackle it by unifying concepts and algorithms from ...

The EMPA-KIDNEY trial showed that empagliflozin reduced the risk of the primary composite outcome of kidney disease progression or cardiovascular death in patients with chronic kidney disease mainly through slowing progression. We aimed to assess how effects of empagliflozin might differ by primary kidney disease across its broad population.
