We report on the lattice-mismatched growth and electrical properties of In 0.5 Ga 0.5 As/InAlAs modulation-doped heterostructures on GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy using a wide-gap InAlAs graded buffer layer and low-temperature Molecular Beam Epitaxial growth at about 350°C. A drastic reduction in residual carrier accumulation has been achieved, and a high electron mobility at room temperature of 11100 cm 2 /V·s was obtained with an electron concentration of 3×10 12 /cm 2 . It was found that ...

AbstractClostridium botulinum strains produce seven immunologically distinct neurotoxins (NTX), type A to G. the NTXs associate with nontoxic components in cultures, and become large complexes with three forms (12S, 16S, and 19S) designated progenitor toxins. the 12S toxin consists of a NTX and a nontoxic component having no hemagglutinin (HA) activity (described here as non-toxic non-HA, NTNH), and the 16S and 19S toxins are formed by conjugation of the 12S toxin with HA. Based on the genetic-and protein ...

The molecular composition of progenitor toxins produced by a Clostridium botulinum type A strain (A-NIH) was analyzed. The strain produced three types of progenitor toxins (19 S, 16 S, and 12 S) as reported previously. Purified 19 S and 16 S toxins demonstrated the same banding profiles on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), indicating that they consist of the same protein components. The nontoxic components of the 19 S and 16 S toxins are a nontoxic non-hemagglutinin ( ...

Abstract Reeler, a recessive mutation in mice., causes cytoarchitectqnic abnormalities to the cerebral and cerebellar cortices. In normal controls corticospinal (CS) tract neurons retrogradely labelled after HRP injection into the lumbar cord were situated only in layer V (the inner pyramidal layer). In the reeler, by contrast, the labelled CS neurons were scattered diffusely throughout all levels of the corresponding cortical area. In addition to the malpositioning of the somata, the labelled CS ...

The constitutive active receptor (CAR) regulates the induction of the cytochrome P450 2B6 (CYP2B6) gene by phenobarbital-type inducers, such as 1,4 bis[2-(3,5-dichloropyridyloxy)]benzene (TCPOBOP) via the distal phenobarbital-responsive enhancer module (PBREM, at –1732/–1685 bp). Activation of the PBREM by TCPOBOP generated a 10-fold induction of CYP2B6 mRNA in HepG2 cells stably expressing mouse CAR (Ym17). Co-treatment with the protein phosphatase inhibitor okadaic acid (OA) synergistically increased ...

The 'Wriggle Mouse Sagami (WMS)' is a new neurological mutant with severe dystonic movements of the trunk and extremities whose pathological characters are transmitted by an autosomal recessive gene (wri). Manifestations first appear at 10 days to 2 weeks after birth and progress until 12 weeks of age. In spite of the severe dystonic movements, no marked abnormalities had been found in the cyto- or myeloarchitecture of the central nervous system or that of the peripheral nerves, except for the impaired ...

P400 protein, which is identical to the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor protein, is a glycoprotein closely associated with the membranes of Purkinje cells. Three types of monoclonal antibodies against P400 protein were employed for the immunohistochemical detection of Purkinje cells in the cerebellum and brainstem of the normal and reeler mouse. Purkinje cells in both types of mice were immunoreactive against anti-P400 antibodies, and the soma, dendrites, axon and even terminal boutons in ...

Streptozotocin diabetic rats showed an increase of bone fragility (11.9 +/- 2.1 kg/cm2 vs. 16.8 +/- 2.0, P < 0.005) which was normalized by insulin treatment (18.3 +/- 4.2), indicating that osteoporosis was induced in diabetic rats. The rats were fed a zinc-deficient diet (0.16 mg/100 g) or a control diet (5.2 mg/100 g). This mild zinc-deficient diet did not lower the serum zinc level. The cortical bone of diabetic rats was shown to be markedly thinner by microscopic examination of ground cross-sections of the tibia. ...

Abstract Reeler, an autosomal recessive mutation in mice, causes cytoarchitectonic abnormalities of the cerebral cortex, which are characterized by malposition of neurons. Retrograde and anterograde transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was employed to examine the reciprocal connectivity between the hindlimb area of the primary motor cortex (MI) and thalamus of normal and reeler mutant mice. In the normal mouse, most of the cells labelled after HRP injection into the hindlimb area of MI were located ...

A new rapid thermal annealing (RTA) method that uses GaAs guard rings has been developed. A new temperature monitoring method is also described. Generations of slip lines on 2-in.-diam GaAs wafers annealed in different kinds of RTA arrangements were investigated by x-ray transmission topography. The use of three GaAs guard rings has been found to be very effective in reducing slip lines. The temperature dependence of activation and uniformity of annealing characteristics for a selective Si-implanted ...

Abstract The normal‐reeler chimera mouse (+/+ ↔ rl/rl) provides an experimental system in which an analysis of the migration of immature neurons in the cerebellum can be accomplished. In the present study, five chimera mice were produced from embryos of the wild‐type control (C57Bl/6N) and the reeler mutant mouse (BALB/c) by the aggregation technique. The isozyme pattern of glucosephosphate isomerase (GPI) revealed that the brain tissue in the chimera contained both isozymes of the BALB/c (reeler) and C57Bl/ ...

Upon activation by therapeutics, the nuclear xenobiotic/ constitutive active/androstane receptor (CAR) regulates various liver functions ranging from drug metabolism and excretion to energy metabolism. CAR can also be a risk factor for developing liver diseases such as hepatocellular carcinoma. Here we have characterized the conserved threonine 38 of human CAR as the primary residue that regulates nuclear translocation and activation of CAR. Protein kinase C phosphorylates threonine 38 located on ...

Various fast and efficient computation techniques for a power converter simulation have been researched. According to the conventional methods, a single step size for a whole circuit is selected for the numerical integration. A real-power electronic system, however, is multirate in that its currents and voltages nonuniformly vary spatially and temporally, and its subcircuits have different transient rates. A simulation that selected an appropriate step size for each subcircuit independently would, ...
