In this article, we articulate how art and Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) are compatible with each other and actually essential to advance each other in this era, by briefly addressing interconnected components in both areas—interaction, creativity, embodiment, affect, and presence. After briefly introducing ...

Chris Wang, Zhiduo Liu, Sidney Fels,

This paper presents a novel game design that allows players to learn how to cast magic spells that combine hand gestures and speech. This game uses the imperfect recognition performance in speech and gesture recognition systems to its advantage to make the game challenging and interesting. Our game uses a Wii remote encased in a wand and a microphone to track player's gestures and speech which are then recognized to determine if they have performed the spell correctly. Visual feedback then provides ...

Ke Li, Susanne Schmidt, Tim Rolff, Reinhard Bacher, Wim Leemans, Frank Steinicke,

Virtual reality (VR) has become an important interactive visualization tool for various industrial processes including facility inspection and maintenance. The capability of a VR application to present users with realistic simulations of complex systems and immerse them in, for example, inaccessible remote environments is often essential for using VR in real-world industrial domains. While many VR solutions have already been developed to support virtual facility inspection, previous systems provide ...
