The fundamental requirements for regeneration are poorly understood. Planarians can robustly regenerate all tissues after injury, involving stem cells, positional information, and a set of cellular and molecular responses collectively called the "missing tissue" or "regenerative" response. follistatin, which encodes an extracellular Activin inhibitor, is required for the missing tissue response after head amputation and for subsequent regeneration. We found that follistatin is required for the missing ...

Melanoma metastasis to the brain is one of the most frequent extracranial brain tumors. Cell surface gangliosides are elevated in melanoma metastasis; however, the metabolic regulatory mechanisms that govern these specific changes are poorly understood in melanoma particularly brain metastases (MBM) development. We found ganglioside GD3 levels significantly upregulated in MBM compared to lymph node metastasis (LNM) but not for other melanoma gangliosides. Moreover, we demonstrated an upregulation ...

In a pilot study, 12 chronically depressed outpatients who had been unresponsive to other forms of somatic and psychotherapy were alternately assigned in order of referral either to cognitive-behavior therapy twice weekly for 10 weeks or to a waiting list control condition for 10 weeks (N = 6 per condition). Outcome was evaluated by changes in social skills and depressive affect measured by self-report inventories, independent clinical ratings, and direct behavioral observation. Yaniv Oiknine, Isaac August, Adrian Stern,
In various applications, such as remote sensing and quality inspection, hyperspectral (HS) imaging is performed by spatially scanning an object. In this work, we present a new compressive hyperspectral imaging method that performs along-track scanning. The method relies on the compressive sensing miniature ultra-spectral imaging (CS-MUSI) system, which uses a single liquid crystal (LC) cell for spectral encoding and provides a more efficient way of HS data acquisition, compared to classical spatial ...

В. М. Фарбер, Yaniv Oiknine, Isaac August, Adrian Stern,
In this Letter, we present a method for hyperspectral imaging of three-dimensional objects. A compressive sensing approach is utilized to remedy the acquisition effort required to capture the large amount of data. The spectral dimension is compressively sensed by means of a liquid crystal-based encoder, and the volumetric data are captured using a synthetic aperture integral imaging setup. We demonstrate reconstruction of spectro-volumetric tesseracts with hundreds of spectral bands at different ...

In this Letter, we present a new snapshot hyperspectral (HS) camera based on a multi-aperture design. The technique uses an array of modified Fabry-Perot resonators together with a lens array in order to acquire an array of spectrally multiplexed modulated sub-images. Then the original HS image is reconstructed using a compressive sensing reconstruction algorithm. The HS camera has high optical throughput and enables acquisition of almost gigapixel HS datacubes with hundreds of spectral bands. Using ...

Summary Twelve patients complaining of chronic free-floating anxiety, usually also with panic attacks, were assigned at random to treatment by six hour-long sessions of anxiety-management training, either with positive or with negative self-statements, given over six weeks. Patients in both treatment conditions improved, with a small trend favouring positive over negative self-instruction, especially at follow-up. It is unclear how much self-instruction, rather than therapeutic attention or mere ...

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified multiple common genetic variants associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer (PrCa), but these explain less than one-third of the heritability. To identify further susceptibility alleles, we conducted a meta-analysis of four GWAS including 5953 cases of aggressive PrCa and 11 463 controls (men without PrCa). We computed association tests for approximately 2.6 million SNPs and followed up the most significant SNPs by genotyping 49 121 samples ...
