The problems related to traffic coordination in intersections are quite common in large cities. Current solutions are based on the utilization of static priorities (i.e. yield signs), on variable signaling like traffic lights, or even on the physical modification of the road structures by transforming intersections in roundabouts. The emergence, evolution, and consolidation of technologies that enable the paradigm of connected and autonomous vehicles have allowed the development of new solutions ...

Systemic mastocytosis is a rare and heterogeneous disease characterized by mast cell proliferation and activation. KIT is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase which plays a key role in mast cell growth, differentiation and survival. After interaction with its ligand, the stem cell factor, KIT dimerizes activating downstream pathways involving multiple tyrosine kinases (PI3K, JAK/STAT, RAS/ERK). Activating mutations in KIT are detected in most cases of systemic mastocytosis, being the most common KIT D816V. ...

Internet growth has generated new types of services where the use of sensors and actuators is especially remarkable. These services compose what is known as the Internet of Things (IoT). One of the biggest current challenges is obtaining a safe and easy access control scheme for the data managed in these services. We propose integrating IoT devices in an access control system designed for Web-based services by modelling certain IoT communication elements as resources. This would allow us to obtain ...

Intelligent transportation systems encompass a series of technologies and applications that exchange information to improve road traffic and avoid accidents. According to statistics, some studies argue that human mistakes cause most road accidents worldwide. For this reason, it is essential to model driver behavior to improve road safety. This paper presents a Fuzzy Rule-Based System for driver classification into different profiles considering their behavior. The system’s knowledge base includes ...

Traffic jams in large cities, in addition to having a very high economic cost, cause an increase in emissions generated by vehicles over the same route being driven under normal conditions. In recent years, there has been a rapid evolution in the technologies applied to the field of autonomous vehicles. There are currently commercial solutions for assisted driving and semi-autonomous driving systems, with very favorable forecasts for reaching a completely autonomous vehicle scenario in the coming ...

One of the biggest challenges in modern societies is to solve vehicular traffic problems. Sensor networks in traffic environments have contributed to improving the decision-making process of Intelligent Transportation Systems. However, one of the limiting factors for the effectiveness of these systems is in the deployment of sensors to provide accurate information about the traffic. Our proposal is using the centrality measurement of a graph as a base to locate the best locations for sensor installation ...

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a heterogeneous entity of B-cell lymphoma. Cell-of-origin (COO) classification of DLBCL is required in routine practice by the World Health Organization classification for biological and therapeutic insights. Genetic subtypes uncovered recently are based on distinct genetic alterations in DLBCL, which are different from the COO subtypes defined by gene expression signatures of normal B cells retained in DLBCL. We hypothesize that classifiers incorporating both ...

In this work, we explore the use of Piris natural orbital functionals (PNOFs) to calculate excited-state energies by coupling their reconstructed second-order reduced density matrix with the extended random-phase approximation (ERPA). We have named the general method PNOF-ERPA, and specific approaches are referred to as PNOF-ERPA0, PNOF-ERPA1, and PNOF-ERPA2, according to the way the excitation operator is built. The implementation has been tested in the first excited states of H2, HeH+, LiH, Li2, ...

The natural orbital functional theory admits two unique representations in the orbital space. On the one hand, we have the natural orbitals themselves that minimize the energy functional, and which afford for a diagonal one-particle reduced density matrix but not for a diagonal Lagrangian orbital energy multipliers matrix. On the other hand, since it is possible to reverse the situation but only once the energy minimization has been achieved, we have the so-called canonical representation, where ...

Background For the treatment of Multiple Myeloma (MM), proteasome inhibitors (PIs) are highly efficient and widely used, but resistance is a major obstacle to successful therapy. Several underlying mechanisms have been proposed but were only reported for a minority of resistant patients e.g., mutations in the PI binding domain PSMB5. However, the proteasome is a large and complex machinery and its mechanistic understanding remains incomplete. In this study, we unravel the role of the six ATPases of ...

There are several recent research lines addressing Wi-Fi network planning and optimization, both in terms of channel assignment and access point deployment. The problem with these works is that evaluation is usually performed with specific and closed models regarding signal propagation, throughput computation, and utility definition. Channel assignment in Wi-Fi 6 dense networks is a challenging problem which critically impacts the performance of WLAN communications. Although there have been many proposals in the area of IEEE 802.11 channel assignment, LCCS has emerged as the de facto standard for distributed channel selection. Within the framework of natural orbital functional theory, having a convenient representation of the occupation numbers and orbitals becomes critical for the computational performance of the calculations. Recognizing this, we propose an innovative parametrization of the occupation numbers that takes advantage of the electron-pairing approach used in Piris natural orbital functionals through the adoption of the softmax function, a pivotal component in modern deep-learning models. Our approach not ...

ABSTRACT We estimated XBB.1.5 vaccine effectiveness (VE) against symptomatic SARS‐CoV‐2 infection among adults aged ≥ 65 years during the 2023/2024 JN.1 lineage‐predominant period in a European multi‐country test‐negative case–control study at primary care level. We estimated VE adjusted by study site, age, sex, chronic conditions and onset date. We included 220 cases and 1733 controls. The VE was 48% (95% CI: 12–71), 23% (95% CI: −11–48) and 5% (95% CI: −92–56) among those with symptom onset 1–5, 6–11, ...
