Meiotic chromosomes consist of proteinaceous axial structures from which chromatin loops emerge. Although we know that loop density along the meiotic chromosome axis is conserved in organisms with different genome sizes, the basis for the regular spacing of chromatin loops and their organization is largely unknown. We use two mouse model systems in which the postreplicative meiotic chromosome axes in the mutant oocytes are either longer or shorter than in wild-type oocytes. We observe a strict correlation ...

We derive the quantum rate equations for an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer with two vertically coupled quantum dots embedded in each of two arms by means of the nonequilibrium Green's function in the sequential tunneling regime. Basing on these equations, we investigate time-dependent resonant tunneling under a small amplitude irradiation and find that the resonant photon-assisted tunneling peaks in photocurrent demonstrate a combination behavior of Fano and Lorentzian resonances due to the interference ...

Abstract Novel bio‐based polyols were prepared from hydroformylated oleic acid (9/10‐hydroxymethyl‐octadecanoic acid) methyl esters (HFME) and trimethylolpropane by transesterification. Hydroformylation produces primary hydroxyls, which allow relatively lower transesterification temperatures and better yields than hydroxy fatty acids with secondary hydroxyl groups. These non‐crystallizing polyols have no double bonds and their viscosities are acceptable. Polyurethane (PU) elastomers prepared by reaction ...

Abstract Triols of molecular weights (MWs) 1000–4000, suitable for flexible foams, were prepared by transesterification of methyl esters of ricinoleic acid with trimethylol propane. These polyols were noncrystallizing, relatively low‐viscosity liquids. They were reacted with diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) to obtain elastomers having glass transition temperatures below −60°C. Polymer networks from high‐MW polyols exhibited relatively high sol fractions suggesting that some cyclization occurred during ...

Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and its receptors, TRAIL-R1 (DR4) and TRAIL-R2 (DR5), promote the selective clearing of various malignancies by inducing apoptosis, holding the promise as a potent therapeutic agent for anticancer. Though DR4 and DR5 have high sequence similarity, differential regulation of both receptors in human tumor cells remains largely unexplored. Here, we repot that golgi-specific Asp-His-His-Cys (DHHC) zinc finger protein (GODZ) regulates TRAIL/DR4- ...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Vegetable oil‐based polyols are a new class of renewable materials. The structure of oil‐based polyols is very different from that of petrochemical polyols, and it is closely related to the structure of oils. The objective of this work was to analyze the structural heterogeneity of soy‐based polyols and its effect on the properties of polyols and polyurethanes. RESULTS: A series of polyols with a range of hydroxyl numbers were prepared by hydroformylation and partial esterification ...

We carry out a theoretical analysis of the zero-frequency and finite-frequency shot noise in electron tunneling through a two-level interacting system connected to two leads, when a weak coherent coupling between the two levels is present, by means of recently developed bias-voltage and temperature-dependent quantum rate equations. For this purpose, we generalize the traditional generation-recombination approach for shot noise of two-terminal tunneling devices to properly take into account the coherent ...

We report our studies of the shot noise spectrum in tunneling through an interacting quantum dot when an additional single-level quantum dot without tunnel coupling to leads is coherently side connected to it. We show that the zero-frequency shot noise could reach a super-Poissonian value for appropriate ratios between dot-dot hoppings and dot-lead couplings, but the current is independent on the hopping. Moreover, the frequency spectrum of shot noise shows an obvious peak at the Rabi frequency, ...

Although calorically equivalent to glucose, fructose appears to be more lipogenic, promoting dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. To better understand how fructose induces lipogenesis, we compared the effects of fructose and glucose on mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), which appeared to have both positive and negative effects on lipogenic gene expression. We found that fructose acutely and transiently suppressed mTORC1 signaling in vitro and in ...

Delineation of the left ventricular cavity, myocardium, and right ventricle from cardiac magnetic resonance images (multi-slice 2-D cine MRI) is a common clinical task to establish diagnosis. The automation of the corresponding tasks has thus been the subject of intense research over the past decades. In this paper, we introduce the "Automatic Cardiac Diagnosis Challenge" dataset (ACDC), the largest publicly available and fully annotated dataset for the purpose of cardiac MRI (CMR) assessment. The dataset ...

This paper consists of two parts – a detailed experimental investigation on the activity of supported threonine aldolase for use in a microreactor/flow reactor and a generic, explorative outline on potential productivity of enzymatic microreactors; with the need to use data from other enzymes here as well. Threonine aldolase was immobilized on different supports foreseen to be coated or packed within the micro- and millichannels of flow reactors. As enzyme supports, an innovative high-surface area ...

Abstract Hydroformylation of methyl soyate produces a mixture of fatty acid methyl esters with zero, one, two, and three hydroxyl groups, the major component being with two hydoxyls (around 50%). Polymerization of methyl esters of hydroxy fatty acids gives a hyperbranched product with a different content of hydroxyl groups depending on the degree of conversion. Molecular weights can be controlled by controlling the degree of conversion but also using monofunctional components. A range of hyperbranched ...

Proteasome inhibitors are known to suppress the proteasome-mediated degradation of IkappaBalpha in stimulated cells. This results in the cytoplasmic retention of NFkappaB and its reduced nuclear transcriptional activity. In this study, we show that in the metastatic prostate cancer cells, the proteasome inhibitors exhibit a novel, previously unrecognized effect: they increase the cellular levels of IkappaBalpha, which then translocates to the nucleus, associates with the nuclear p65 NFkappaB, thus ...

Several recent studies have suggested that mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) can differentiate into female and male germ cells in vitro. The meiotic process in germ cell-like cells derived from ESCs has not been studied in detail, but it has been reported that synaptonemal complex protein-3 (SYCP3) is expressed in these cells. Here, we have carefully evaluated the meiotic process in germ cell-like cells derived from ESCs, using a panel of meiosis-specific markers that identify distinct meiotic signatures ...
