This paper presents the residual mechanical properties of concrete made with crushed bricks and clay roof tile aggregates after exposure to high temperatures. One referent mixture and eight mixtures with different percentages of replacement of natural aggregate by crushed bricks and roof tiles are experimentally tested. The properties of the concrete were measured before and after exposure to 200, 400, 600 and 800 °C. In order to evaluate the basic residual mechanical properties of concrete with ...

Significance Syntactic distance is standardly measured hierarchically only by counting the nodes in a tree-like structure. The dominance of hierarchy over the other logically possible measure of distance—e.g., counting words in a linear order—stems from a large body of research. We show a strong preference for the linear strategy in coordination structures in South Slavic languages, with a design comparing agreement controllers that can come either before or after their target. A large-scale study ...

This paper studies the electronic structures of the 14 flavonoids and their cation and radical forms involved in the first electrochemical oxidation step, associated with the oxidation peak appearing at potential Ep1. The sum of differences in Net atomic charges on atoms in skeleton of cations and neutral flavonoids (Σs(C)ΔNACCat.-Neut.) and the sum of Atomic orbital electron and spin populations on atoms in skeleton of radicals (Σs(C)AOEP and Σs(C)AOSP) revealed that electron distribution between ...

The reactivities of a set of 18 diverse flavonoids against electrochemically generated superoxide anion radical were studied by monitoring changes in O2/O2·− cyclic voltammetry response upon addition of increasing concentrations of flavonoids. In the presence of flavonoids, the O2·- anodic peak current decreased, while the cathodic peak of O2 remained almost unchanged. Concomitantly with an O2·- anodic peak current decrease, a new irreversible cathodic pre-peak before the O2 reduction peak appeared ...

In the past few decades, due to the exponential increase of the world's population, the number of discarded waste tires has become a serious ecological and environmental problem. Decomposition of waste tire rubber can take longer than 50 years, and every year the number of discarded tires is rapidly growing. With the inclusion of waste tire rubber into self-compacting concrete this global problem can be reduced. Waste tire rubber can be incorporated in self-compacting concrete by partially replacing ...

Infill in frames can have detrimental or beneficial effects, and among parameters that influence interaction, infill type stands out as a common element. Masonry units utilized for masonry structures are also frequently utilized as a frame infill. Consequently, their higher strength and stiffness greatly influence the surrounding frame, which can often lead to undesired effects. Therefore, a different approach is proposed – designing a masonry unit with structurally favorable properties for an infill. ...

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder with a very fast progression, no diagnostic tool for the presymptomatic phase, and still no effective treatment of the disease. Sheet conductivity of Langmuir–Blodgett assembled multi-layer graphene films is enhanced through doping with nitric acid, leading to a fivefold improvement while retaining the same transparency as un-doped films. In the regression we included the Ep1 of 12 polyphenols (mostly flavonols and catechins) that were measured in our laboratory at pH 3. The model yielded r=0.986 and SE=0.040. Later successive inclusions of previously reported Ep values into the regression model, 7 at pH 3, the model (N=19) yielded r=0.980, SE=0.046 ...
