Design of bandpass filters for microwave integrated circuits (MICS) utilizing dielectric resonators is discussed. Synthesis methods for both Tschebycheff and Butterworth responses are derived. Experimental results with S- and X-band filters are presented, and the agreement between theory and experiments is shown to be fairly good. Limitations on this technique due to poor temperature stability are also discussed.

This article is dedicated to the high cycle fatigue behaviour of cast hypo-eutectic Al–Si alloys and in particular the AlSi7Cu05Mg03 alloy. In a vast experimental campaign undertaken to investigate the fatigue damage mechanisms operating in this alloy, subject to complex loading conditions, it was shown that two different coexisting fatigue damage mechanisms occur in this materials, depending on the presence of different microstructural heterogeneities (i.e. micro-shrinkage pores, Si particles, Fe- ...

The position of the first satellite valley in wurtzite GaN is directly determined by near-band-gap photoemission spectroscopy of $p$-doped GaN activated to negative electron affinity. The photoemission spectra exhibit two structures, with fixed energy position, which originate from electrons accumulated in the conduction band valleys of the bulk material. We assigned the two observed features respectively to $\ensuremath{\Gamma}$ and L valleys and obtain an intervalley energy separation of $0.90\ifmmode\ ...

We report on the unambiguous detection of Auger electrons by electron emission spectroscopy from a cesiated InGaN/GaN light-emitting diode under electrical injection. Abstract The need for a high resolution chromatographic technique for analyzing compounds that are heavy, relatively polar, have low water solubility, and are not adequately separated by regular HPLC methods, has led to the development of a high temperature liquid chromatography system. The increased diffusion coefficients and reduced viscosity at higher temperatures resulted in high separation velocities and allowed long columns to be used. The HTLC system contained 70 cm columns and nonaqueous ...

We discuss the challenges of light‐emitting diodes in view of their application to solid‐state lighting. The requirement is to at least displace the quite efficient fluorescent, sodium, and high intensity discharge lamps used today in the main energy consuming lighting sectors, industrial, commercial and outdoors, with more efficient and better light quality lamps. We show that both from the point of view of cost of ownership and carbon emissions reduction, the relevant metric is efficiency, more ...

Understanding universal aspects of quantum dynamics is an unresolved problem in statistical mechanics. In particular, the spin dynamics of the one-dimensional Heisenberg model were conjectured as to belong to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class based on the scaling of the infinite-temperature spin-spin correlation function. In a chain of 46 superconducting qubits, we studied the probability distribution of the magnetization transferred across the chain's center, [Formula: see text]. The ...

Engineered dissipative reservoirs have the potential to steer many-body quantum systems toward correlated steady states useful for quantum simulation of high-temperature superconductivity or quantum magnetism. Using up to 49 superconducting qubits, we prepared low-energy states of the transverse-field Ising model through coupling to dissipative auxiliary qubits. In one dimension, we observed long-range quantum correlations and a ground-state fidelity of 0.86 for 18 qubits at the critical point. ...

Abstract An important measure of the development of quantum computing platforms has been the simulation of increasingly complex physical systems. Before fault-tolerant quantum computing, robust error-mitigation strategies were necessary to continue this growth. Here, we validate recently introduced error-mitigation strategies that exploit the expectation that the ideal output of a quantum algorithm would be a pure state. We consider the task of simulating electron systems in the seniority-zero subspace ...
