Recent studies have shown that the behavioral performance of adult honey bees is influenced by the temperature experienced during pupal development. Here we explore whether there are temperature-mediated effects on the brain. ABSTRACT Infection of fibroblast-like synovial cells with Chlamydia trachomatis (serotype D strain IC Cal 8) in culture induced the secretion of beta interferon (IFN-β). Chlamydial infection inhibited IFN-γ-induced expression of HLA-DR antigen in the cells. Addition of IFN-β antibody directly to infected cultures mitigated HLA-DR inhibition, suggesting involvement of produced IFN-β.

An extension of the work of P. Mandl concerning the optimal control of time-homogeneous diffusion processes in one dimension is given. Instead of a classical second order differential operator as infinitesimal generator, Feller's generalized differential operator DmD+p with a possibly nondecreasing weight function m is used. In this manner an optimal control of a wider class of one dimensional Marcov processes-including diffusions as well as birth and death processes-is realized.
