Testing options for pregnant women at increased risk of common aneuploidies are non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and invasive prenatal diagnosis (PND). Clinicians are challenged to comprehensively discuss the complex information in a patient-centered and non-directive manner, to allow for patients' informed decision-making. This study explored the information-centeredness, patient-centeredness, and level of non-directivity of different clinicians and examined group differences between their patients. ...

Abstract In this study we have examined, by means of isoelectric focusing (IEF) in native polyacrylamide gel and contact‐print fluorescence zymography, whether human lung carcinomas and the lung parenchyma contain different pools of multiple charge forms of the cysteine proteinase cathepsin B. The isoelectric point (pl) patterns of cathepsin B from lung carcinoma and matched lung were similar, particularly with regard to 2 major intermediate acidic enzyme pl forms designated as I and II (pl app of ...

Abstract No single reliable parameter exists to assess liver graft function of extended criteria donors during ex-vivo normothermic machine perfusion (NMP). The liver maximum capacity (LiMAx) test is a clinically validated cytochromal breath test, measuring liver function based on 13CO2 production. As an innovative concept, we aimed to integrate the LiMAx breath test with NMP to assess organ function. Eleven human livers were perfused using NMP. After one hour of stabilization, LiMAx testing was performed. ...

In recent years, the interstitial cells telocytes, formerly known as interstitial Cajal-like cells, have been described in almost all organs of the human body. Although telocytes were previously thought to be localized predominantly in the organs of the digestive system, as of 2018 they have also been described in the lymphoid tissue, skin, respiratory system, urinary system, meninges and the organs of the male and female genital tracts. Since the time of eminent German pathologist Rudolf Virchow, ...

The clinical significance of the right posterior segment (RPS) graft in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is unknown because of its limited use and technical concerns. This study aimed to review published studies investigating outcomes of RPS grafts. The systematic literature search was conducted to retrieve data from Embase, Medline Ovid, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, and Google Scholar. Among the 388 articles, six retrospective studies from Asian countries were included. The overall ...

No curative treatment options are available for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Anti-PD1 antibody therapy can induce tumor regression in 20% of advanced HCC patients, demonstrating that co-inhibitory immune checkpoint blockade has therapeutic potential for this type of cancer. However, whether agonistic targeting of co-stimulatory receptors might be able to stimulate anti-tumor immunity in HCC is as yet unknown. We investigated whether agonistic targeting of the co-stimulatory receptor GITR ...

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication after liver transplantation. Although numerous risk factors for AKI have been identified, their cumulative impact remains unclear. Our aim was therefore to design a new model to predict post-transplant AKI.Risk analysis was performed in patients undergoing liver transplantation in two centres (n = 1230). A model to predict severe AKI was calculated, based on weight of donor and recipient risk factors in a multivariable regression analysis according ...

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of hypoxia and hypotension during the agonal phase of donor warm ischemia time (DWIT) on hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) and complications in donation after circulatory death (DCD) liver transplantation. A retrospective single‐center study of 93 DCD liver transplants (Maastricht type III) was performed. DWIT was divided into 2 periods: the agonal phase (from withdrawal of treatment [WoT] until circulatory arrest) and the asystolic ...

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after liver transplantation and more frequently observed when high-risk grafts, such as donation after circulatory death (DCD) grafts are used. Our aim was to investigate the impact of the ischemia periods on development of AKI in DCD liver transplantation. We performed a 2-center retrospective study with 368 DCD graft-recipients. Donor warm ischemia time (DWIT) was divided into agonal phase (withdrawal of life support-cardiac arrest) and asystolic phase ( ...

This Letter introduces a new circuit topology of the simple electronically controllable voltage-mode bilinear two port (BTP) employing two operational transconductance amplifiers. The proposed two-port circuit is completely resistorless and contains only a grounded capacitor. It has a high-impedance input (a simple cascading of sections is possible) and allows an independent electronic adjusting of zero and pole frequency of the transfer function. The operation of the BTP circuit is demonstrated for ...

Abstract The electronic band structure of MoS 2 , MoSe 2 , WS 2 , and WSe 2 , crystals has been studied at various hydrostatic pressures experimentally by photoreflectance (PR) spectroscopy and theoretically within the density functional theory (DFT). In the PR spectra direct optical transitions (A and B) have been clearly observed and pressure coefficients have been determined for these transitions to be: α A = 2.0 ± 0.1 and α B = 3.6 ± 0.1 meV/kbar for MoS 2 , α A = 2.3 ± 0.1 and α B = 4.0 ± 0.1 meV/kbar for MoSe 2 , α A = 2. ...

Identification of tumour antigens is crucial for the development of vaccination strategies against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Most studies come from eastern-Asia, where hepatitis-B is the main cause of HCC. However, tumour antigen expression is poorly studied in low-endemic, western areas where the aetiology of HCC differs. We constructed tissue microarrays from resected HCC tissue of 133 patients. Expression of a comprehensive panel of cancer-testis (MAGE-A1, MAGE-A3/4, MAGE-A10, MAGE-C1, MAGE- ...

The etiopathogenesis of endometriosis still remains unknown. Recent data provide new valuable information concerning the role of oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of the disease. It has been proved that levels of different lipid peroxidation end products are increased in both peritoneal fluid (PF) and serum of endometriotic patients. Emerging technologies allowing two-way communication between utility companies and their customers are changing the rules of the energy market. Deregulation makes it even more demanding for utility companies to create new business processes for the mutual benefit of the companies and their customers. Dynamic load management of the power grid is essential to make better and more cost-effective use of electricity production capabilities, and to increase customer satisfaction. In this paper, methods ...

Copper single crystals oriented for single slip were cyclically strained at a constant plastic strain amplitude up to fracture. The stress amplitude, the loop shape parameter and the average hardening coefficient were measured using a computer-controlled electrohydraulic system. The nucleation stress amplitude for persistent slip bands was found and compared with the saturation stress amplitude. The long-term steady decrease in the loop shape parameter found for all amplitudes indicates hardening ...
