Abstract Human neuroscience research faces several challenges with regards to reproducibility. While scientists are generally aware that data sharing is an important component of reproducible research, it is not always clear how to usefully share data in a manner that allows other labs to understand and reproduce published findings. Here we describe a new tool, AFQ-Browser, that builds an interactive website as a companion to a published diffusion MRI study. Because AFQ-browser is portable -- it runs in any ...

Radiation damage to space-based Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) detectors creates defects which result in an increasing Charge Transfer Inefficiency (CTI) that causes spurious image trailing. Most of the trailing can be corrected during post-processing, by modelling the charge trapping and moving electrons back to where they belong. However, such correction is not perfect -- and damage is continuing to accumulate in orbit. To aid future development, we quantify the limitations of current approaches, and ...

Cosmic shear has been identified as the method with the most potential to constrain dark energy. To capitalise on this potential it is necessary to measure galaxy shapes with great accuracy, which in turn requires a detailed model for the image blurring, the Point Spread Function (PSF). In general the PSF varies with wavelength and therefore the PSF integrated over an observing filter depends on the spectrum of the object. For a typical galaxy the spectrum varies across the galaxy image, thus the ...

The first half of this paper explores the origin of systematic biases in the measurement of weak gravitational lensing. Compared to previous work, we expand the investigation of point spread function instability and fold in for the first time the effects of non-idealities in electronic imaging detectors and imperfect galaxy shape measurement algorithms. Together, these now explain the additive |${\cal A}(\ell )$| and multiplicative |${\cal M}(\ell )$| systematics typically reported in current lensing measurements. ...

This paper describes the definition of a typical next-generation space-based weak gravitational lensing experiment. We first adopt a set of top-level science requirements from the literature, based on the scale and depth of the galaxy sample, and the avoidance of systematic effects in the measurements which would bias the derived shear values. We then identify and categorise the contributing factors to the systematic effects, combining them with the correct weighting, in such a way as to fit within ...

Longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) restoration in the southeastern United States offers opportunities for carbon (C) sequestration. Ecosystem C stocks are not well understood in longleaf pine forests, which are typically of low density and maintained by prescribed fire. The objectives of this research were to develop allometric equations for above- and below-ground biomass and quantify ecosystem C stocks in five longleaf pine forests ranging in age from 5 to 87 years and in basal area from 0.4 ...

Euclid is a medium class European Space Agency mission candidate for launch in 2019 with a primary goal to study the dark universe using the weak lensing and baryonic acoustic oscillations techniques. Weak lensing depends on accurate shape measurements of distant galaxies. Therefore it is beneficial that the effects of radiation-induced charge transfer inefficiency (CTI) in the Euclid CCDs over the course of the 5 year mission at L2 are understood. This will allow, through experimental analysis and ...

Euclid-VIS is a large format visible imager under investigation for the ESA Euclid space mission in their Cosmic Vision program. Together with the near infrared photometer (NIP) it forms the basis of the weak lensing measurements of Euclid. VIS will image in a single r+i+z band from 550-920 nm over a field of view of ~0.5 deg 2 . Over 4 exposures totalling 1800 sec, VIS will reach to V=24.9 (10σ) for sources with extent ~0.3 arcsec. The image sampling is 0.1 arcsec. VIS will provide deep imaging with ...

Human vision remains perceptually stable despite frequent displacements of the retinal image associated with saccadic eye movements. In the current study, we evaluated recent claims that this visual stability relies on the integration of sensory inputs over time in environmental rather than retinal coordinates. These claims were inspired by a psychophysical phenomenon in which perceptual sensitivity for a motion stimulus presented after a saccade is enhanced when preceded by a priming motion stimulus ...

It has been suggested that eye-movements both betray and influence the chosen stimulus in a judgement of facial attractiveness. We were interested in generalising this observation to see whether patterns of eye-movements would change according to the type of decision to be made when faced with a series of binary choices made with the same stimulus set. Two 4deg colour patches were presented 4deg either side of (temporary) fixation. The suprathreshold patches were defined along a vectors in CIE space ...
