At our institution, traditional postpartum rounds were time consuming and inefficient with a low percentage (approximately 12%) of patients meeting the goal of being discharged by 11:00 am. A patient-centered collaborative care (PCCC) initiative was implemented to improve discharge efficiency, staff communication, and patient satisfaction. We investigated whether this paradigm shift to PCCC could improve clinical inefficiencies and timely discharge. The PCCC rounding system was created by a representative ...

Spinocerebellar ataxia type 29 (SCA29) is an autosomal dominant, non-progressive cerebellar ataxia characterized by infantile-onset hypotonia, gross motor delay and cognitive impairment. Affected individuals exhibit cerebellar dysfunction and often have cerebellar atrophy on neuroimaging. Recently, missense mutations in ITPR1 were determined to be responsible. Clinical information on 21 individuals from 15 unrelated families with ITPR1 mutations was retrospectively collected using standardized questionnaires, ...

In this letter we present a Keller–Segel model with logistic growth dynamics arising in the study of chemotactic pattern formation. We prove the existence of a minimum wave speed for which the model exhibits nonnegative traveling wave solutions at all speeds above this value and none below. The exact value of the minimum wave speed is given for all biologically relevant parameter values. These results strengthen recent results where non-sharp upper and lower bounds on the minimum wave speed were ...

Microglia, the tissue-resident macrophages of the central nervous system (CNS), play critical roles in immune defense, development and homeostasis. However, isolating microglia from humans in large numbers is challenging. Here, we profiled gene expression variation in primary human microglia isolated from 141 patients undergoing neurosurgery. Using single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing, we identify how age, sex and clinical pathology influence microglia gene expression and which genetic variants have ...

Recent increased adverse cardiovascular events observed with selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibition led to the withdrawal of rofecoxib (Vioxx) and valdecoxib (Bextra), but the mechanisms underlying these atherothrombotic events remain unclear. Prostacyclin is the major end product of cyclooxygenase-2 in vascular endothelium. Using a naturally occurring mutation in the prostacyclin receptor, we report for the first time that a deficiency in prostacyclin signaling through its G protein-coupled receptor ...

Separated longitudinal and transverse cross sections for charged pion electroproduction from (1)H, (2)H, and (3)He were measured at Q(2) = 0.4 (GeV/c)(2) for two values of the invariant mass, W = 1.15 GeV and W = 1.60 GeV, in a search for a mass dependence which would signal the effect of nuclear pions. This is the first such study that includes recoil momenta significantly above the Fermi surface. The longitudinal cross section, if dominated by the pion-pole process, should be sensitive to nuclear pion currents. ...

Abstract Objective At our institution, traditional postpartum rounds consisted of separate visits from all members of the obstetric team. This led to patient care inefficiencies and miscommunication. In an effort to improve patient care, patient-centered collaborative care (PCCC) was established, whereby physicians, residents, medical students, nurses, case managers, and social workers conduct rounds as a team. The goal of this observational study was to evaluate how PCCC rounds affected resident ...

The ( ${e,e}^{\ensuremath{'}}p$) reaction was studied on targets of C, Fe, and Au at momentum transfers squared ${Q}^{2}$ of 0.6, 1.3, 1.8, and $3.3{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$ in a region of kinematics dominated by quasifree electron-proton scattering. Missing energy and missing momentum distributions are reasonably well described by plane wave impulse approximation calculations with ${Q}^{2}$ and $A$ dependent corrections that measure the attenuation of the final state protons.

The (3,4)(Lambda)H and (4)(Lambda)H hypernuclear bound states have been observed for the first time in kaon electroproduction on (3,4)He targets. The production cross sections have been determined at Q(2)=0.35 GeV2 and W=1.91 GeV. For either hypernucleus the nuclear form factor is determined by comparing the angular distribution of the (3,4)He(e,e(')K+)(3,4)(Lambda)H processes to the elementary cross section 1H(e,e K+)Lambda on the free proton, measured during the same experiment.

We report measurements of cross sections for the reaction 1H(e,e′K+)Y, for both the Λ and Σ0 hyperon states, at an invariant mass of W=1.84GeV and four-momentum transfers 0.5<Q2<2(GeV/c)2. Data were taken for three values of virtual photon polarization ε, allowing the decomposition of the cross sections into longitudinal and transverse components. The Λ data are a revised analysis of prior work, whereas the Σ0 results have not been previously reported.Received 5 November 2002DOI:https://doi.org/ ...

The ${}^{1}\mathrm{H}({e,e}^{\ensuremath{'}}{K}^{+})\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ reaction was studied as a function of the squared four-momentum transfer, ${Q}^{2}$, and the virtual photon polarization, $\ensuremath{\varepsilon}$. For each of four ${Q}^{2}$ settings, 0.52, 0.75, 1.00, and 2.00 $(\mathrm{GeV}/c{)}^{2}$, the longitudinal and transverse virtual photon cross sections were extracted in measurements at three virtual photon polarizations. The ${Q}^{2}$ dependence of the ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{L}/{\ensuremath{\ ...

We report on the first measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g1d of the deuteron in the deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons off polarised deuterons, in the kinematical range 0.006<x<0.6, 1 GeV2<Q2<30 GeV2. The first moment, Γ1d=ʃ01 g1d dx=0.023±0.020 (stat.) ± 0.015 (syst.), is smaller than the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rules. Using earlier measurements of g1p, we infer the first moment of the spin-dependent neutron structure function g1n. The difference Γ1p−Γ1n=0.20± ...

We report a large enhancement of 1.7 in deuteron polarization up to values of 0.6 due to frequency modulation of the polarizing microwaves in a two liters polarized target using the method of dynamic nuclear polarization. This target was used during a deep inelastic polarized muon-deuteron scattering experiment at CERN. Measurements of the electron paramagnetic resonance absorption spectra show that frequency modulation gives rise to additional microwave absorption in the spectral wings. Although ...

A muon beam polarimeter has been built for the SMC experiment at the CERN SPS, for muon energies of 100 to 200 GeV. The beam polarisation is determined from the energy spectrum of positrons from the decay μ+ → e+ νcνμ. A polarisation of − 0.82 is measured with a relative systematic accuracy of 3%.

The 10-probe NMR system for measuring the polarization in the deuterated butanol target of the Spin Muon Collaboration is presented. It is calibrated by determining the integrated spectrum in thermal equilibrium at 1 K. Thermal stabilization and control of electromagnetic interference were effective in reducing drift and electronic noise, so that high quality thermal equilibrium signals were obtained. The calibration constant was determined with a reproducibility of 2%. Systematic effects of circuit ...

We analyse the proton, deuteron and neutron spin dependent structure functions at fixed Q2 = 5 GeV2. The experimental asymmetries for the proton, neutron and deuteron are compared and found to be consistent. The first moment of the neutron structure function is evaluated using all available data. We find that the Bjorken sum rule is confirmed within an experimental uncertainty of 17%. The quark spin contribution to the nucleon spin is small, and the strange quark spin content is different from zero.

The coherent ${}^{3}\mathrm{He}{(e,e}^{\ensuremath{'}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{)}^{3}\mathrm{H}$ reaction was measured at ${Q}^{2}=0.4 (\mathrm{GeV}{/c)}^{2}$ and $W=1.6 \mathrm{GeV}$ for two values of the virtual photon polarization, \ensuremath{\epsilon}, allowing the separation of longitudinal and transverse cross sections. The results from the coherent process on ${}^{3}\mathrm{He}$ were compared to $\mathrm{H}{(e,e}^{\ensuremath{'}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+})n$ data taken at the same kinematics. This marks the first ...

The A(e,e{prime}K{sup +})YX reaction on H, D, {sup 3}He, and {sup 4}He was investigated in Hall C at CEBAF. Data were obtained for Q{sup 2} {approx} 0.35 and 0.5 GeV{sup 2} at 3.245 GeV. The missing mass spectra for both H and D are fitted with Monte-Carlo simulations incorporating peaks corresponding to {Lambda} production on the proton and {Sigma} production on both the proton and neutron. For D, the cross section ratio {Sigma}{sup 0}/{Sigma}{sup {minus}} {approx} 2, and excess yield close to the thresholds ...
