Performance profiles have begun to be identified as extremely useful in order to help coaches individualize training according to the age and gender of athletes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the activity demands and speed profile of U18 female basketball players during competitive matches. Time variables (real and playing time), distance variables (distance performed, distance in speed zones, high intensity distance and distance covered sprinting) and speed variables (number of ...

The scientific literature on women’s basketball is still limited, mainly in performance parameters. The purpose of this study was to analyse the state of art on the internal and external loads supported by female basketball players during sports practice. The design of this research is theoretical. The most relevant databases were searched for pertinent published studies according to the following keywords: “basketball”, “female” or “woman”, “training” or “competition”, “load” or “demand”. Of the 644 studies ...

One of the main challenges in sports coaching is to monitor competitive performance in order to adjust training load. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how playing position, game period and playing time influenced the physical demands of youth basketball players. Six measures of external load (total distance covered, high-speed distance, number of accelerations, decelerations, jumps and player load) were collected from 48 youth basketball players, over the course of a short tournament, through ...

Tracking pH with spatiotemporal resolution is a critical challenge for synthetic chemistry, chemical biology and beyond. Over the last decade, different small probes and supramolecular systems have emerged for in cellulo or in vivo pH tracking. However, pH reporting still presents critical limitations, such as background reduction, improved sensor stability, cell targeting, endosomal escape, near- and far-infrared ratiometric pH tracking and adaption to new imaging techniques (i.e., super-resolution). ...

The ability of a player to perform high-intensity actions can be linked to common requirements of team sports, and the ability to accelerate can be an important factor in successfully facing the opponent. The aim of this study was to determine the acceleration and deceleration profiles of U-18 women's basketball players during competitive matches. This study categorized accelerations and decelerations by playing position and quarter. Forty-eight U-18 female basketball players from the same Spanish ...

The purpose of this study was two-fold: to analyze the association between muscular fitness (MF) and clustering of metabolic syndrome (MetS) components, and to determine if fatness parameters mediate the association between MF and MetS clustering in Colombian collegiate students. This cross-sectional study included a total of 886 (51.9% women) healthy collegiate students (21.4 ± 3.3 years old). Standing broad jump and isometric handgrip dynamometry were used as indicators of lower and upper body MF, respectively. ...

Linear, dimeric, tetrameric, and cyclic peptides derived from lactoferricin B, containing the RRWQWR motif, were designed, synthesized, purified, and characterized using RP-HPLC chromatography and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The antibacterial activity of the designed peptides against E. coli (ATCC 11775 and 25922) and their cytotoxic effect against MDA-MB-468 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines were evaluated. DC-SIGN is a dendritic cell-specific C-type lectin receptor that recognizes highly glycosylated ligands expressed on the surface of various pathogens. This receptor plays an important role in the early stages of many viral infections, including HIV, which makes it an interesting therapeutic target. Glycomimetic compounds are good drug candidates for DC-SIGN inhibition due to their high solubility, resistance to glycosidases, and nontoxicity. We studied the structural properties of the interaction ...

The key role of carbohydrates in many biological events has attracted the interest of the scientific community. This fact has demanded the access to new tools necessary to understand this role and the interaction of carbohydrates with their corresponding receptors, lectins. Glycodendrimers and glycodendritic structures in general, have demonstrated to be very efficient and interesting tools to intervene in those processes where carbohydrates participate. In this review, we discuss the different ...

This paper presents a new method for accurately estimating the pose (position and orientation) of a mobile robot by registering a segment-based local map observed from the current robot pose and a global map. The method works in a two-stage procedure. First, the orientation is determined by aligning the local and global map through a voting process based on a generalized Hough transform. Second, it uses a coarse-to-fine approach for selecting candidate positions and a weighted voting scheme to determine ...

Abstract The pentacyclic triterpenes rhoiptelenol and rhoiptelenone have been isolated from Sideritis macrostachya. Rhoiptelenone is a new natural compound, whose structure has been determined as D:B-friedo-urs-5-en-3-one. The 1H and 13 C NMR spectra of rhoiptelenol, rhoiptelenol acetate and glutinol have been reassigned. The natural occurrence of the D:B-friedoursene and D:B-friedo-oleanene derivatives has been examined.

Experiments on a test bench based on a GaN PA driven by a 15-MHz orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal were conducted in order to validate the algorithm. Experimental ...

Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess the budgetary impact of funding smoking-cessation drugs in COPD patients in Spain. A hybrid model (cohort and Markov) was developed for a 5-year time horizon. Only approved cessation drugs (varenicline, bupropion, and nicotine replacement therapy) were considered. Irrespective of the drug, the model allowed for an initial cessation attempt, and up to three additional attempts in case of failure or smoking relapse during a 5-year period. Drug effectiveness ...

Central scaffold topology and carbohydrate density are important features in determining the binding mechanism and potency of synthetic multivalent of poly- versus monodisperse carbohydrate systems against a model plant toxin (Ricinus communis agglutinin (RCA120 )). Lower densities of protein receptors favour the use of heterogeneous, polydisperse glycoconjugate presentations, as determined by surface plasmon resonance and dynamic light scattering.

Deaf children usually achieve lower scores on numerical tasks than normally hearing peers.
