Several progenitor cell populations have been reported to exist in hearts that play a role in cardiac turnover and/or repair. Despite the presence of cardiac stem and progenitor cells within the myocardium, functional repair of the heart after injury is inadequate. Identification of the signaling pathways involved in the expansion and differentiation of cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) will broaden insight into the fundamental mechanisms playing a role in cardiac homeostasis and disease and might ...

Parkinson's disease (PD) disrupts the control and coordination of grasping forces, likely due to a disruption in basal ganglia circuitry and diminished activity within the supplementary motor area (SMA). High intensity aerobic exercise has been shown to enhance connectivity between basal ganglia nuclei and cortical areas, including the SMA. The aim of this project was to determine the effects of high intensity lower extremity exercise on motor control patterns underlying a manual dexterity task.PD ...

Emerging literature indicates aerobic exercise improves the motor symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the impact of aerobic exercise on functional locomotor performance has not been evaluated systematically. Fifty-nine participants with idiopathic PD completed 24 aerobic exercise sessions over 8 weeks. Two modes of exercise ...

Background A significant gap remains in the ability to effectively characterize postural instability in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Clinical evaluation of postural declines is largely subjective, whereas objective biomechanical approaches are expensive and time consuming, thus limiting clinical adoption. We introduce a search technique that is sensitive to a broad class of signals with large final state multiplicities. Events are clustered into large radius jets and jet substructure techniques are used to count the number of subjets within each jet. The search consists of a cut on the total number of subjets in the event as well as the summed jet mass and missing energy. Two different techniques for counting subjets are described and expected sensitivities are presented for eight benchmark signals. ...

New Abelian vector bosons can kinetically mix with the hypercharge gauge boson of the Standard Model. This letter computes the model-independent limits on vector bosons with masses from 1 GeV to 1 TeV. The limits arise from the numerous e + e − experiments that have been performed in this energy range and bound the kinetic mixing by ϵ ≲ 0.03 for most of the mass range studied, regardless of any additional interactions that the new vector boson may have.
