Objective Hepatitis E virus (HEV), one of the most common agent of acute hepatitis worldwide, is mainly transmitted enterically, via contaminated water for HEV genotypes 1 (HEV1) and HEV2, or by eating raw or undercooked infected meat for HEV genotype 3 (HEV3) and HEV4. However, little is known about how the ingested HEV reaches the liver or its ability to replicate in intestinal cells. Design We developed human primary cultures of small intestine epithelial cells and intestinal explants obtained from ...

Due to the lack of an adequate conventional therapy against lower limb ischemia, gene transfer for therapeutic angiogenesis is seen as an attractive alternative. However, the possibility of side effects, due to the expression of large amounts of angiogenic factors, justifies the design of devices that express synergistic molecules in low controlled doses. We have developed an internal ribosome entry site (IRES)–based bicistronic vector expressing two angiogenic molecules, fibroblast growth factor ...

Karen Gould,

This article concerns the aesthetic influence of Northern Gothic sculpture on Pucelle's art. It explores how he integrated particular figures and iconographic themes from the Strasbourg Cathedral sculpture into the illumination of two manuscripts, the Hours of Jeanne d'Evreux and the Miracles de Notre Dame. Second, it demonstrates that he designed the south narthex window at Strasbourg Cathedral.

Stanley Ferber,

In the Hours of Jeanne d'Evreux, Pucelle took inspiration not only from Duccio's Maestà, as is well known, but also from Giovanni Pisano's pulpit in S. Andrea, Pistoia. Here too the borrowings are selective and complex, and offer fresh insight into the range of qualities Pucelle esteemed in trecento art. Interest in sculptural form helps to explain his turn to a grisaille painting technique. It is briefly suggested that aspects of the Duc de Berri's patronage should be related to his appreciation ...
