There is increasing evidence regarding the role of chromosomal inversions in relevant biological processes such as local adaptation and speciation. A classic example of the adaptive role of chromosomal polymorphisms is given by the clines of inversion frequencies in Drosophila subobscura, repeatable across continents. Nevertheless, not much is known about the molecular variation associated with these polymorphisms. We characterized the genetic content of ca. 600 individuals from nine European populations ...

The Brazilian electricity market is characterized by having around 65% of its installed capacity coming from hydropower plants, with multiple agents coexisting in the same hydro cascades. Currently, it also contains certain peculiarities that distinguish it from other markets, such as the Energy Reallocation Mechanism (MRE), a centerpiece of the Brazilian market’s design. This paper proposes replacing the MRE with a bid- based short-term market called the virtual reservoir model. To simulate the ...

The Brazilian electricity market has certain particularities that contribute to considerably distinguish it from other markets. With a continental interconnected transmission system in which around 70% of the total installed capacity comes from hydropower plants, this electricity market recently passed through two large institutional reforms and it currently contains a number of special features together with other usual market instruments. Nevertheless, the conciliation between the commercial commitments ...

The decrease in children motor competence, with a consequent reduction in the levels of physical activities and fitness, impacting health negatively, has affected children across countries. In addition to consistent intervention strategies, it is necessary to use appropriate instruments. The Körperkoordinationstest Für Kinder (KTK) is a reliable and low-cost motor coordination (MC) test used in several countries but lacking psychometric evidence in the Brazilian population. The present study investigates ...

Abstract Background Protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) is a family of conserved serine/threonine phosphatases involved in several essential aspects of cell growth and proliferation. PP2ACdc55 phosphatase has been extensively related to cell cycle events in budding yeast; however, few PP2ACdc55 substrates have been identified. Here, we performed a quantitative mass spectrometry approach to reveal new substrates of PP2ACdc55 phosphatase and new PP2A-related processes in mitotic arrested cells. Results We ...

The Ca2+/calmodulin complex interacts with and regulates various enzymes and target proteins known as calmodulin-binding proteins (CaMBPs). This group of proteins includes molecular motors such as myosins. In this study, we show that non-muscle myosin-IIB is overexpressed in the brains of diabetic rats. We isolated CaMBPs from the brains of non-diabetic rats and rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes and purified them by immobilized-calmodulin affinity chromatography. The proteins were eluted ...

This study examines the geochemical and mineralogical variations in the ferruginous mineralisations that crop out within Grotta della Monaca, which is considered to be the most striking and best known example of a prehistoric iron mine-cave from the southern Apennines (Calabria, Italy). Understanding latitudinal variation in avian life-history traits has been a focus of many demographic studies around the world. However, we still know little about annual or intra-annual demographic variation within tropical regions or about how factors such as breeding season and precipitation influence demographic rates. We investigated the response of microbial community to changes in H2S loading rate in a microaerated desulphurisation system treating biogas from vinasse methanisation. H2S removal efficiency was high, and both COD and DO seemed to be important parameters to biomass activity.
