Abstract Clinical, cytogenetic, pathologic and histocompatibility‐Y (H‐Y) antigen studies were performed on a phenotypic female with primary amenorrhea and streak gonads. Pathological examination of tissues removed at total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo‐gonadectomy showed gonadoblastoma and dysgerminoma of left streak. A single F‐body (Y chromosome) was found in buccal smears. Analysis of blood cells and tumor fibroblasts showed a 46, XY chromosome constitution (Q‐banding). The data were consistent ...

Blubber samples from 33 Guiana dolphins (Sotalia guianensis) from three estuaries (Guanabara, Sepetiba/Ilha Grande and Paranaguá Bays) of Southern and Southeastern Brazil were analyzed for organochlorine compounds (DDTs, PCBs and HCB). The sampled individuals were incidentally captured in gillnet fishery between 1995 and 2005. The concentrations (in ng/g lipids) varied from 652 to 23 555 for SigmaDDT; from 765 to 99 175 for SigmaPCB; and from <4.4 to 156 for HCB. The results have shown that cetaceans ...

Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis virus (CAEV) and Visna/maedi virus (VISNA), are considered to be genetically distinct but antigenically related pathogens of goats and sheep. In this study, one flock of 250 goats was screened using Agar-gel Immunodiffusion (AGID), and the level of seroprevalence observed was 11 animals (4.4%) of positive tested serum. Four goats positive to AGID were analyzed using a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), which amplifies part of the gag gene. All the animals were found to be ...

Spreadsheets play an important role in software organizations. Indeed, in large software organizations, spreadsheets are not only used to define sheets containing data and formulas, but also to collect information from different systems, to adapt data coming from one system to the format required by another, to perform operations to enrich or simplify data, etc. In fact, over time many spreadsheets turn out to be used for storing and processing increasing amounts of data and supporting increasing ...

Spreadsheets are considered to be the most widely used programming language in the world, and reports have shown that 90% of real-world spreadsheets contain errors. In this work, we try to identify spreadsheet smells, a concept adapted from software, which consists of a surface indication that usually corresponds to a deeper problem. Our smells have been integrated in a tool, and were computed for a large spreadsheet repository. Finally, the analysis of the results we obtained led to the refinement ...

This study aimed to investigate the impact of contamination by persistent organic pollutants (POPs) on Brazilian wildlife. The concentrations of certain POPs, including dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), in the eggs of the brown booby (Sula leucogaster) were measured. The eggs were collected from breeding colonies located on three archipelagos (Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Abrolhos and Cagarras Islands) in the Atlantic Ocean, which are located at different distances ...

The use of powerful mobile devices, like smartphones, tablets and laptops, is changing the way programmers develop software. While in the past the primary goal to optimize software was the run time optimization, nowadays there is a growing awareness of the need to reduce energy consumption. This paper presents a technique and a tool to detect anomalous energy consumption in Android applications, and to relate it directly with the source code of the application. We propose a dynamically calibrated ...

This paper proposes and validates a model-driven software engineering technique for spreadsheets. The technique that we envision builds on the embedding of spreadsheet models under a widely used spreadsheet system. This means that we enable the creation and evolution of spreadsheet models under a spreadsheet system. More precisely, we embed ClassSheets, a visual language with a syntax similar to the one offered by common spreadsheets, that was created with the aim of specifying spreadsheets. Our ...

SUMMARY This study evaluated the characteristics of carcass and commercial cuts of Santa Ines lambs of different biotypes (traditional and modern) slaughtered at 32 kg and 34 kg. The thirty-six Santa Ines sheep used, of which 18 traditional and 18 modern biotypes were on average 180 days old and weighed 16 kg initially. The animals were kept in individual stalls (0.80 × 1.20 m) until they reached the slaughtering weight. The experimental design was completely randomized, factorial 2×2 (two biotypes x ...

Although hardware is generally seen as the main culprit for a computer’s energy usage, software too has a tremendous impact on the energy spent. Unfortunately, there is still not enough support for software developers so they can make their code more energy-aware. This paper proposes a technique to detect energy inefficient fragments in the source code of a software system. Test cases are executed to obtain energy consumption measurements, and a statistical method, based on spectrum-based fault ...

Quasinormal modes of usual, four dimensional, Kerr black holes are described by certain solutions of a confluent Heun differential equation. In this work, we express these solutions in terms of the connection matrices for a Riemann-Hilbert problem, which was recently solved in terms of the Painlevé V transcendent. We use this formulation to generate the small-frequency expansion for the angular spheroidal harmonic eigenvalue, and derive conditions on the monodromy properties for the radial modes. ...

Indeed, we seek to establish and analyze different rankings for programming languages based on their energy efficiency. We conduct an analysis of the quasinormal modes for generic spin perturbations of the Kerr black hole using the isomonodromic method. The strategy consists of solving the Riemann-Hilbert map relating the accessory parameters of the differential equations involved to monodromy properties of the solutions, using the $\ensuremath{\tau}$-function for the Painlev\'e V transcendent. We show excellent accordance of the method with the literature for generic rotation parameter $a<M$. In the extremal limit, ...
