We have attached a homogeneous rhodium catalyst to a fluoroacrylate copolymer backbone, making it soluble in supercritical carbon dioxide. The polymer was synthesized by the polymerization of 1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl acrylate monomer (zonyl TAN) (I), available from Dupont, and N-acrylosuccinimide (NASI), the former increasing the solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide and the latter providing attachment sites for the catalyst. Diphenylphosphinopropylamine, NH2(CH2)3PPh2 (DPPA), was used ...

Supercritical CO2 has been used as a benign solvent in the hydroformylation of 1-octene using a Rh-based catalyst. The catalyst is attached to a polymer backbone that has fluoroacrylate branches that make it soluble in supercritical CO2. Quantitative solubility determinations of catalyst precursors and the catalyst were carried out at 318.15 K and 172.4 bar. The catalyst was evaluated in the hydroformylation reaction of 1-octene at 323.15 and 348.15 K and 172.4 and 241.3 bar. Results showed that ...

Recent experiments have shown the ability to introduce an anisotropy energy to the energy landscape of a thin-film nanomagnet through the use of mechanical strain. Assuming this strain-induced anisotropy is large enough, the low-energy state of the nanomagnet is altered and can be used to initialize the magnetization along a given axis. Utilizing this effect, we propose a more energy efficient method of nanomagnet reversal through spin-transfer torque (STT). This is accomplished by first initializing ...

The kinetic studies on the hydrogenation of 1-octene and cyclohexene using a fluoroacrylate copolymer grafted rhodium catalyst in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) are reported. The reactions were investigated at temperatures between 50 and 120 °C, and pressures ranging from 172 to 241 bar. The catalyst also deactivated at these reaction conditions. For the case of 1-octene, isomerization to (E)2-octene and (Z)2-octene also occurred as side reactions. To represent the experimental data, a kinetic ...

This paper investigates the kinetics of geopolymerisation in an inorganic polymeric binder based on a natural pozzolan. The heat released by the exothermic geopolymerisation reaction process is monitored under isothermal temperature conditions, maintained in a differential scanning calorimeter using a water circulation cell. Calorimetric data are obtained isothermally at 65, 75, and 85 °C with various Na2O/Al2O3 and SiO2/Na2O molar ratios and in the presence and absence of small amounts of calcium ...

This paper addresses methods to reduce efflorescence in a geopolymer binder based on a pumice-type natural pozzolanic material from Taftan, Iran. Geopolymer pastes samples are analyzed for compressive strength and efflorescence formation after curing at 95% humidity for 28 days. To reduce the extent of efflorescence, Al-rich mineral admixtures such as metakaolin, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, and three types of calcium aluminate cements are incorporated into the dry binder at a range of ...

Laryngo-onycho-cutaneous (LOC) syndrome is a subtype of autosomal recessive junctional epidermolysis bullosa in which there is prominent skin and mucosal granulation tissue that can lead to delayed wound healing, laryngeal obstruction and blindness.
