β-CIT-FP [N-(3-fluoropropyl)-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4-iodophenyl)nortropane] is a cocaine analogue with a high affinity for the dopamine transporter. [O-methyl-11C]β-CIT-FP ([11C]β-CIT-FP) was prepared by O-alkylation of the free acid with [11C]methyl iodide. The total radiochemical yield of [11C]β-CIT-FP was 50 to 60% with an overall synthesis time of 30 min. The radiochemical purity was >99%, and the specific radioactivity at time of injection was about 37 GBq/μmol (1000 Ci/mmol). Autoradiographic examination ...

Asymptomatic Plasmodium falciparum infections are common in Malawi; however, the implications of these infections for the burden of malaria illness are unknown. Whether asymptomatic infections eventually progress to malaria illness, persist without causing symptoms, or clear spontaneously remains undetermined. We identified asymptomatic infections and evaluated the associations between persistent asymptomatic infections and malaria illness.Children and adults (N = 120) who presented at a health facility ...

The synthesis and pharmacological characterization of a series of N-substituted 3-(4-fluorophenyl)tropane derivatives is reported. The compounds displayed binding characteristics that paralleled those of cocaine, and several had substantially higher affinity at cocaine recognition sites. Conjugate addition of 4-fluorophenyl magnesium bromide to anhydroecgonine methyl ester gave 2 beta-(carbomethoxy)-3 beta-(4-fluorophenyl)tropane (4a, designated CFT, also known as WIN 35,428) after flash chromatography. ...

The primary objective of this study was to compare the objective and subjective effects of amisulpride with those of a classic antipsychotic, haloperidol, when both were given to healthy volunteers in representative therapeutic doses over 5 days. The secondary objective was to compare the effects of relatively low and high doses of amisulpride to confirm the suspected duality of its pharmacologic activity. Twenty-one subjects participated in the four-way, randomized, double-blind, crossover study ...

Abstract 2β‐Carbomethoxy‐3β‐(4‐fluorophenyl)‐[N‐ 11 C‐methyl]tropane, a potent inhibitor of dopamine transport, was prepared by N‐methylation of the appropriate nor‐methyl precursor in DMF with [ 11 C]iodomethane. After derivatization of unreacted precursor with a long chain acyl halide, the radiotracer was purified using reversed phase semipreparative HPLC. The average specific activity was 3065 mCi/μmole (calculated at the end‐of‐synthesis; EOS). The average time of synthesis including formulation ...

Few data exist on the incidence or duration of natural Plasmodium falciparum infections in high-transmission settings.
