Reaction of arenethiolate anions with [Ag(PPh3)4] yields novel silver(1) thiolate phosphine complexes, which are very soluble in common solvents. The crystal structure of [{Ag(SPh)(PPh3)}4] has been solved: C90H80Ag4P4S4, triclinic, space group P1. a = 12.263(2) b = 13.124(2), c = 15.063(2)Å, α=69.596(9), β = 81.074(11), γ=68.944(12)°, U = 2119.2(6)Å3, Z = 1. The complex has a highly-distorted chair structure in the solid state, with short silver-silver contacts of 3.1300(3)Å. [{Ag(SPh)(PPh3)}4] is a rare example ...

The reaction of [ReCl3O(PPh3)2] in toluene with 2-diphenylphosphinoaniline yielded the brown rhenium(V) amido/imido-complex [ReCl2(NC6H4PPh2-2)(HNC6H4PPh2-2)]1. This represents the first example of a metal complex where a 2-aminophenylphosphine is fully deprotonated to give an N,P chelated imido-complex. The crystal structure of 1 shows a distorted-octahedral geometry with the imido-nitrogen trans to chloride whereas the amido-nitrogen is disposed trans to a phosphorus. Reaction of the N,O-chelated complexes [ReCl2(N2COC6H4-4-R)(PPh3)2] (R = H, Me, NO2) with N,N- and certain N-substituted hydrazines gave the ammine complexes [ReCl2(NH3)(NNCOC6H4-4-R)(PPh3)2][R = H (1), R = Me (2), R = NO2 (3). The mechanism is believed to involve intermolecular homolytic cleavage of the NN bond. The x-ray structure of 1 revealed a pseudo-octahedral geometry with trans-phosphines. Abstract Hydrogen as an energy carrier promises a sustainable energy revolution. However, one of the greatest challenges for any future hydrogen economy is the necessity for large scale hydrogen production not involving concurrent CO 2 production. The high intrinsic hydrogen content of liquid‐range alkane hydrocarbons (including diesel) offers a potential route to CO 2 ‐free hydrogen production through their catalytic deep dehydrogenation. We report here a means of rapidly liberating high‐purity hydrogen ...

The ubiquitous challenge of plastic waste has led to the modern descriptor plastisphere to represent the human-made plastic environment and ecosystem. Here we report a straightforward rapid method for the catalytic deconstruction of various plastic feedstocks into hydrogen and high-value carbons. We use microwaves together with abundant and inexpensive iron-based catalysts as microwave susceptors to initiate the catalytic deconstruction process. The one-step process typically takes 30–90 s to transform ...

Reaction of [ReCl2(OMe)(NO)(PPh3)2] with a range of thiophenols under basic conditions gives one of two classes of products depending on the steric requirements of the thiols. A representative member of each class has been characterised by an X- ray crystal structure determination. Thiophenols with methyl or isopropyl groups in their ortho positions give the mononuclear complexes [Re(SR)4(NO)](SR = SC6H2Pri3-2,4,6, SC6H3Pri2-2,6, SC6H2Pri2-2,6-4- Br, or SC6H2Me3-2,4,6) which are trigonal bipyramidal ...
