Animals repeatedly subjected to ultraviolet irradiation develop many types of neoplasms, the type varying with the light source, dosage, species, strain and other factors (1, 2). Most such studies have been concerned with the production of skin tumors. However, the eyes of these animals also are subjected to irradiation, and carcinomas of the eyelids or neoplasms of ocular structures may result (3—6). After observing blindness due to corneal tumors in a group of pigmented rats irradiated with ultraviolet, ...

The production of erythema has been the endpoint most often used to evaluate the biological effects of ultraviolet. Finsen first demonstrated that erythema was caused by ultraviolet (1). The specific wavelengths responsible were studied, and an erythema action curve was derived by Hausser and Vahle (2, 3). This curve is widely accepted as standard (4, 5) and is characterized by having the greatest erythemal effectiveness at 297 m/x, rapid loss of effectiveness at 310 and 280 m/x, and a second maximum ...

The nature and behavior of basal cell epitheliomas have been the subject of much discussion. There are those who do not consider these lesions to be true malignant neoplasms. However, a few instances of metastasis have been described (1). Pickren and Katz (2) suggested that metastasis may occur by direct implantation to mucous membrane. The possibility of recurrence or metastasis occurring by means of transplantation of tumor tissue at the time of excision or of curettage has also been suggested. ...

However, the method of pathologic evaluation of the lymph node has been scrutinized to obtain the greatest sensitivity, specificity, and negative predictive value, ultimately for the benefit of the patient. Until suitable systemic means are available for protecting susceptible individuals from the cumulative damaging effects of excessive ultraviolet exposure, such protection will be limited to topically applied sunscreens. Abstract. The Ocean Model Intercomparison Project (OMIP) is an endorsed project in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6). OMIP addresses CMIP6 science questions, investigating the origins and consequences of systematic model biases. It does so by providing a framework for evaluating (including assessment of systematic biases), understanding, and improving ocean, sea-ice, tracer, and biogeochemical components of climate and earth system models contributing to CMIP6.
