GEM and Nab-P is a standard first line therapy for mPDAC based on the MPACT Trial. D is a human monoclonal antibody (mAb) that inhibits binding PD-L1 to its receptor. T is a mAb directed against CTLA-4. PA.7 is designed to evaluate whether combining PD-L1 and CTLA-4 inhibition with GEM and Nab-P increases treatment efficacy. This randomized phase II study (NCT02879318) assessed the efficacy and safety of GEM, Nab-P, D, and T (arm A) vs GEM and Nab-P (arm B) in patients (pts) with mPDAC (n=191). Pts with ...

BRAFV600E mutations portend poor prognosis in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC); however, the true prevalence and prognosis are unknown, as unwell patients may not undergo BRAF sequencing. We reviewed a population-based cohort of 1,898 patients with colorectal cancer that underwent reflexive IHC mismatch repair (MMR) and BRAFV600E testing. Outcomes among IHC-detected BRAFV600E mCRC (BRAFIHC) were compared with patients with next-generation sequencing (NGS)-identified BRAFV600E-mutated mCRC from two ...

Aluminum chloride induced mesophyll protoplasts of oat (Avena sativa) to produce an extracellular polysaccharide (EPS). EPS induced by AlCl(3) appeared identical to that produced in response to the phytotoxin victorin (JD Walton, ED Earle [1985] Planta 165: 407-415). Al ions at 1 millimolar were toxic to protoplasts, but maximum EPS production occurred at a sublethal concentration of 200 micromolar, assayed at pH 6.0. As measured by incorporation of [(14)C]glucose, AlCl(3) stimulated EPS production 10- ...

Guy Tsafnat, Enrico Coiera, Sally R. Partridge, Jaron Schaeffer, Jonathan R. Iredell,

Gene discovery algorithms typically examine sequence data for low level patterns. A novel method to computationally discover higher order DNA structures is presented, using a context sensitive grammar. The algorithm was applied to the discovery of gene cassettes associated with integrons. The discovery and annotation of antibiotic resistance genes in such cassettes is essential for effective monitoring of antibiotic resistance patterns and formulation of public health antibiotic prescription policies. ...

Culture filtrates of the maize pathogen Cochliobolus carbonum contained an enzymatic activity capable of degrading the β1,3-linked glucan, laminarin. Of several culture media tried, a minimal salts medium containing yeast extract and 1% oat bran cereal gave the highest yield of total β1,3-glucanase activity. Production of the enzyme activity was suppressed by addition of 2% sucrose to the medium. The β1,3-glucanase was purified 69 fold to homogeneity with a 32% yield by HPLC anion exchange and HPLC ...

Despite earlier detection and stage migration, seminal vesicle invasion is still reported in the prostate specific antigen era and remains a poor prognostic indicator. We investigated outcomes in men with pT3b disease in the contemporary era.The institutional radical prostatectomy database (1982 to 2010) of 18,505 men was queried and 989 with pT3b tumors were identified. The cohort was split into pre-prostate specific antigen (1982 to 1992), and early (1993 to 2000) and contemporary (2001 to present) ...
