Research into the role of digital influencers in marketing strategies is a rapidly developing area that has attracted the interest of researchers and organizations. In recent years, organizations have become increasingly interested in using digital influencers to promote their brands and disseminate advertising messages with a high impact on their target audience. Digital influencers are beginning to be used as models for sustainable consumption behavior (for example in the fashion, food, and health ...

This paper describes the design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of new N-acylhydrazone (NAH) compounds, belonging to the N-substituted-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole-4-acylhydrazone class (2a–p). Classical heteroaromatic ring bioisosterism strategies were applied to the previously reported N-phenylpyrazolyl-4-acylhydrazone derivative 1, elected as lead-compound due to its important anti-aggregating profile on arachidonic acid induced platelet aggregation (IC50=24±0.5 μM), from which emerge this new ...

Sewage sludge biochar (SSB) is the solid product obtained after the pyrolysis of sludge. In the last ten years, hundreds of studies have evaluated the effects of SSB as a soil amendment over a short period of time. Thus, doubts remain about the temporal behavior of SSB under field conditions. The objective of this study was to evaluate, under field conditions, the effects of SSB on the fertility indicators (pH, potential acidity, Mehlich1-P and -K, CEC and KCl-exchangeable Ca, Mg and Al) and corn yield ...

The present work reviews studies with information on the effects of water by itself on stones of the built environment both to assess the impact of this substance and to discuss possible implications for conservation. The analysis concerns empirical results from previous publications dealing with the effects, on several rock types, of freeze–thaw, wetting, erosion by running water and substances resulting from the water–stone interaction. Laboratory studies have shown that water freezing can cause ...

Natural stone is an important component of historical heritage (buildings and art objects such as sculptures or rock engravings), and it is still widely used in contemporary works. Soluble salts are the main erosive agent in the built environment, and we review here comparative studies that subject the same rock type to testing with different salt solutions. The results mostly support the accepted notion of the major impact of sodium sulphate, although there are some exceptions. The effects of sodium ...

The flora and vegetation of the archipelago of Cabo Verde is dominated by Macaronesian, Mediterranean, and particularly by African tropical elements, resulting from its southernmost location, when compared to the other islands of the Macaronesia (i.e., Azores, Madeira, Selvagens, and Canary Islands). Very likely, such a geographical position entailed higher susceptibility to extreme climatic fluctuations, namely those associated with the West African Monsoon oscillations. These fluctuations led to ...

Flavonoids are bioactive compounds that are known to be neuroprotective against glutamate-mediated excitotoxicity, one of the major causes of neurodegeneration. The mechanisms underlying these effects are unresolved, but recent evidence indicates flavonoids may modulate estrogen signaling, which can delay the onset and ameliorate the severity of neurodegenerative disorders. Furthermore, the roles played by glial cells in the neuroprotective effects of flavonoids are poorly understood. The aim of ...

Celastrol is one of the most active antitumour compounds among the natural triterpenoids. It has been reported to be highly active against a wide variety of tumours and to affect multiple cellular pathways. A series of new celastrol derivatives, including compounds bearing a urea group, have been synthesised and analysed for their biological activity against human cancer cell lines. Several compounds presented a stronger growth inhibition effect than celastrol on the cell lines studied. Among them, ...

Among other celastrol analogues, novel carbamate derivatives were designed and synthesised, and their biological activity on the viability of human cancer cell lines was evaluated. Additionally, a preliminary structure–activity relationship study was conducted. Derivative 18 showed the highest activity on cancer cell viability, combined with the best selectivity between malignant cells and non-malignant fibroblasts. ...

The objective of this study is to evaluate the early age hydration mechanisms of accelerated CEM I pastes. Liquid phase analysis, conductimetry, isothermal calorimetry, in situ XRD and SEM were performed on cement pastes produced with equivalent doses of an alkaline accelerator (sodium aluminate solution) and of an alkali-free accelerator (aluminum sulfate solution). Results showed that the addition of these chemicals first changes the ionic equilibria of the medium by the consumption of Ca2+ and ...

Cerium-doped cryptomelane stabilizes polyhedron Au nano-particles smaller than 3 nm. The obtained Au/Ce/cryptomelane catalyst is highly active for CO oxidation. Cationic, neutral, and anionic gold species were found on Ce/cryptomelane. The modification of cryptomelane by the addition of cerium is twofold: (i) cerium is incorporated in the tunnels of cryptomelane, increasing the number of defects which function as nucleation sites for gold and (ii) ceria nano-particles at the surface induce charge ...

A bstract We revisit the potential of a Linear Collider concerning the study of lepton flavour violation, in view of new LHC bounds and of the (very) recent developments in lepton physics. Working in the framework of a type I supersymmetric seesaw, we evaluate the prospects of observing seesaw-induced lepton flavour violating final states of the type eμ plus missing energy, arising from e + e − and e − e − collisions. In both cases we address the potential background from standard model and supersymmetric ...

The analysis of moving objects in image sequences (video) has been one of the major themes in computer vision. In this paper, we focus on video-surveillance tasks; more specifically, we consider pedestrian trajectories and propose modeling them through a small set of motion/vector fields together with a space-varying switching mechanism. Despite the diversity of motion patterns that can occur in a given scene, we show that it is often possible to find a relatively small number of typical behaviors, ...

We consider a supersymmetric type III seesaw, where the additional heavy states are embedded into complete SU(5) representations to preserve gauge coupling unification. Complying with phenomenological and experimental constraints strongly tightens the viable parameter space of the model. In particular, one expects very characteristic signals of lepton flavour violation both at low-energies and at the LHC, which offer the possibility of falsifying the model.

We study the impact of a type-I SUSY seesaw concerning lepton flavour violation (LFV) both at low-energies and at the LHC. The study of the di-lepton invariant mass distribution at the LHC allows to reconstruct some of the masses of the different sparticles involved in a decay chain. In particular, the combination with other observables renders feasible the reconstruction of the masses of the intermediate sleptons involved in $ \chi_2^0 \to \tilde{\ell }\ell \to \ell \ell \chi_1^0 $ decays.
