Evaluating how well a mining company is prepared to close an operating mine can help in managing the risks of not achieving closure goals and intended future site conditions. Considering international best practices recommendations, we developed and tested a procedure to evaluate, during the operational phase, the preparedness of companies to close a mine. Based on the principles of physical stability, chemical stability, socioeconomic transition, and post-mining land use, a weighted checklist containing ...

This study shows the influence of the Pt percentage in Pt catalysts (Pt/C) on their application in Direct Glycerol Fuel Cells (DGFC). Catalysts with 20, 30, 40 and 60% Pt were prepared by formic acid reduction. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) confirmed the formation of Pt fcc nanocrystals (with average sizes between 3 and 4 nm). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) corroborated the Pt loadings and the Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) images show a homogeneous distribution of the Pt nanoparticles, with larger ...

Dysregulation of pre-mRNA splicing machinery activity has been related to the biogenesis of several diseases. The serine/arginine-rich protein kinase family (SRPKs) plays a critical role in regulating pre-mRNA splicing events through the extensive phosphorylation of splicing factors from the family of serine/arginine-rich proteins (SR proteins). Previous investigations have described the overexpression of SRPK1 and SRPK2 in leukemia and other cancer types, suggesting that they would be useful targets ...

The prevalences of left, right, and double septal pouches are 40.8%, 5.1%, and 3.7%, respectively. There is a concern about the risk of embolic events due to formation of thrombi in a LASP (especially stroke).
