The association between anti-AT1Rabs and microvascular injury observed in antibody-mediated rejection has been described in kidney graft Biopsies (KGBx).We herein describe the histopathologic findings of KGBx performed during the first year of transplantation (Tx) in 134 patients tested for pre-Tx anti-AT1Rabs in cryopreserved sera (04/2009 to 09/2013). Protocol KGBx before implantation (time-zero), 1 year after Tx and for cause KGBx were included. 21/134 Tx patients were anti-AT1Rab positive (≥17 U/mL); ...

Many studies suggest that the substantia nigra, pars reticulata (SNpr), a tegmental mesencephalic structure rich in γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)- and cannabinoid receptor-containing neurons, is involved in the complex control of defensive responses through the neostriatum-nigral disinhibitory and nigro-tectal inhibitory GABAergic pathways during imminently dangerous situations. The aim of the present work was to investigate the role played by CB1-cannabinoid receptor of GABAergic pathways terminal boutons ...

Sport nutrition is a constantly evolving field with literally thousands of research papers published annually. For this reason, keeping up to date with the literature is often difficult. This paper presents a well-referenced overview of the current state of the science related to how to optimize training through nutrition. More specifically, this article discusses: 1.) how to evaluate the scientific merit of nutritional supplements; 2.) general nutritional strategies to optimize performance and ...

Despite the great importance of iron mining in the Brazilian economy, significant volumes of tailings with high iron content are generated in the ore beneficiation process. Even with high crystallinity, studies show that the iron ore tailings (IOT) can be used as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM). In this context, this work analyzes the influence of primary (PMT) and secondary (SMT) mechanical treatment and magnetic separation (MS) on the performance of IOT as SCM. To this end, the performance ...

Inspired by a case study, this paper reports a successful application of VNS to the production planning and scheduling problem that arises in the glass container industry. This is a multi-facility production system, where each facility has a set of furnaces where the glass paste is produced in order to meet the demand, being afterwards distributed to a set of parallel molding machines. Since the neighborhoods used are not nested, they are not ordered by increasing sizes, but by means of a new empirical ...

Gupta and Magnusson [The capacitated lot-sizing and scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup costs and setup times. Computers and Operations Research 2005;32(4):727-47] develop a model for the single machine capacitated lot-sizing and scheduling problem (CLSP) with sequence dependent setup times and setup costs, incorporating all the usual features of setup carryovers. In this note we show that this model does not avoid disconnected subtours. A new set of constraints is added to the model ...

This paper presents a combination of optimization and data mining techniques to address the surgery scheduling problem. In this approach, we first develop a model to predict the duration of the surgeries using a data mining algorithm. The prediction model outcomes are then used by a mathematical optimization model to schedule surgeries in an optimal way. In this paper, we present the results of using three different data mining algorithms to predict the duration of surgeries and compare them with ...

A possible association between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection has been the subject of study and debate in recent years. This review discusses the pathophysiological and immunological mechanisms implicated in this relationship. Although gastric secretion in the majority of H. pylori-infected individuals is unaltered, this review considers how the bacteria may interfere with gastric acid production and what role it may play in GERD. We also identify ...

Focal fibrocartilaginous dysplasia is a rare benign entity, previously described as a factor responsible for causing tibia vara at the walking age. We report here the case of a child with tibia valga due to focal fibrocartilaginous dysplasia of the lateral part of the proximal tibia. To our knowledge, this is the first observation of a lesion located in the lateral proximal tibia. Clinical, radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging surveillance was performed. Spontaneous resolution of the lesion ...

The presence of bisphenol A (BPA) and eight BPA analogues was investigated in 30 canned meat samples (sausages, pâtés, and whole meals). For that, a previously developed gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) methodology based on a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) extraction followed by dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) with “in situ” acetylation was optimized, namely by the introduction of a novel solid-phase dispersive sorbent. Results showed that all the ...

Coastal wetlands in the Alvarado Lagoon System (ALS) have been drained by sugar cane agriculture and cattle ranching. The ALS is located in the Papaloapan river basin, which is the second most important in Mexico, as determined by its area (46 000 km2) and water surface flow. The purpose of this article is to assess the coastal wetlands' vulnerability under three scenarios, current, actual trend and strategic, by building an index at the municipality scale using a Pressure-State-Response (PSR) model. ...

In this article, we study the problem of processing k-nearest neighbors (kNN) queries in road networks considering traffic conditions, in particular the case where the speed of moving objects is time-dependent. For instance, given that the user is at a given location at certain time, the query returns the k points of interest (e.g., gas stations) that can be reached in the minimum amount of time. Previous works have proposed solutions to answer kNN queries in road networks where the moving speed in ...
